AbstractThe pale-brown chafer, Phyllopertha diversa, utilizes an unusual alkaloid, 1,3-dimethyl-2,4-(1H,3H)-quinazolinedione, as its sex pheromone. This compound is rapidly degraded in vitro by the antennal protein extracts from this scarab beetle. Demethylation at the N-1 position and hydroxylation of the aromatic ring have been identified as the major catabolic pathways. The enzyme responsible for the pheromone degradation is membrane-bound, requires NAD(P)H for activity and is sensitive to cytochrome P450 inhibitors, such as proadifen and metyrapone. Conformational-Dependent Photodissociation of Glycolic Acid in an Argon Matrix

Ultraviolet-induced photodissociation and photo-isomerization of the three most stable conformers (SSC, GAC, and AAT) of glycolic acid are investigated in a low-temperature solid argon matrix using FTIR spectroscopy and employing laser radiation with wavelengths of 212 nm, 226 nm, and 230 nm. The present work broadens the wavelength range of photochemical studies of glycolic acid, thus extending the understanding of the overall photochemistry of the compound. The proposed kinetic model for the photodissociation of glycolic acid proceeds from the lowest energy conformer (SSC). Somatic Embryogenesis and Plant Regeneration from Hypocotyl Cultures of Digitalis obscura L.

Summary Hypocotyl sections from 20-day-old seedlings of Digitalis obscura L. were used to examine the effect of IAA on somatic embryogenesis. Although embryogenesis was obtained with all IAA concentrations (0.1, 0.5 and 1 ppm) and under both illumination conditions tested (16 h photoperiod and darkness), incubation in photoperiod increased yield of embryos and shortened the embryo induction time. Optimum results were obtained with 1 ppm IAA. About 30 % of the embryos obtained developed into complete plantlets when transferred to basal medium without growth regulators.

In seed plants, the colocalization of the 5S loci within the intergenic spacer (IGS) of the nuclear 45S tandem units is restricted to the phylogenetically derived Asteraceae family. However, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) colocalization of both multigene families has also been observed in other unrelated seed plant lineages. Previous work has identified colocalization of 45S and 5S loci in Ginkgo biloba using FISH, but these observations have not been confirmed recently by sequencing a 1.8 kb IGS. Darbā apkopota informācija par poliprenolu liposomālā uztura bagātinātāja “SuperCell” lietošanas ietekmi uz maratonu un pusmaratonu skrējējiem - amatieriem. Lai izpētītu poliprenolu efektivitāti fiziskās slodzes laikā, tika pētīti divu maratona skrējēju grupu asins bioķīmiskie parametri. Pētījuma dalībnieki bija 22 vīriešu dzimuma sportisti vecumā no 25 līdz 41 gadam, kuri tika sadalīti kontroles grupā (nelietoja poliprenolus) un produktu grupā - lietoja 30 mg poliprenolu liposomu mīkstā želatīna kapsulās 3 reizes dienā 4 ± 1 dienas pirms skrējiena.
