Plasmonics co-integrated with silicon nitride photonics for high-sensitivity interferometric biosensing

We demonstrate a photonic integrated Mach-Zehnder interferometric sensor, utilizing a plasmonic stripe waveguide in the sensing branch and a photonic variable optical attenuator and a phase shifter in the reference arm to optimize the interferometer operation. The plasmonic sensor is used to detect changes in the refractive index of the surrounding medium exploiting the accumulated phase change of the propagating Surface-Plasmon-Polariton (SPP) mode that is fully exposed in an aqueous buffer solution. Optimization of a polarization imaging system for 3D measurements of transparent objects

2009

This paper presents a multispectral imaging system for 3D reconstruction of transparent objects based on "shape from polarization" technique. The originality of this work relies on a multispectral active lighting system which enables to cope with the two ambiguities on the zenith angle and azimuth angle. A calibration step allows optimising the polarimetric measurements. Example of a reconstructed transparent object is presented.

Scene-based spectral calibration assessment of high spectral resolution imaging spectrometers

An accurate knowledge of the spectral calibration of imaging spectrometers is required for optimum data processing and interpretation. The scene-based spectral characterization of imaging spectrometers is frequently necessary to update or replace the pre-flight laboratory-based spectral characterization supplied by the data provider. Joint Spectral and Energy Efficiency Optimization for Downlink NOMA Networks

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) holds the promise to be a key enabler of 5G communication. However, the existing design of NOMA systems must be optimized to achieve maximum rate while using minimum transmit power. To do so, this paper provides a novel technique based on multi-objective optimization to efficiently allocate resources in the multi-user NOMA systems supporting downlink transmission. Spectral properties of random non-self-adjoint operators

In this thesis we are interested in the spectral properties of random non-self-adjoint operators. Weare going to consider primarily the case of small random perturbations of the following two types of operators: 1. a class of non-self-adjoint h-differential operators Ph, introduced by M. Hager [32], in the semiclassical limit (h→0); 2. large Jordan block matrices as the dimension of the matrix gets large (N→∞). Dialkoxide diorganotin(IV) complexes are known to readily react with carbon dioxide under pressure and they are considered as suitable catalyst precursor models for the direct synthesis of organic carbonates. To gain a better understanding of CO2 insertion processes with Sn-OR bonds, the reactivity of n-Bu2Sn(OCH(CH3)(2))(2) (2) was investigated using high-pressure NMR (HP-NMR) spectroscopy. Sprectroradiometric characteristics of inland water bodies infestated by Oscillatoria rubescens algae

In December 2006 blooms of Oscillatoria rubescens were found in the reservoir Prizzi in Sicily. Oscillatoria is a genus of filamentous alga comprising approximately 6 species, between these the O. rubescens is sadly famous since this organism produces microcystins which are powerful hepatotoxins. Firstly found in Europe in 1825 on Geneva lake, recently (2006) those algae has been find out in Pozzillo, Nicoletti e Ancipa reservoirs (Enna Province), as well as in Prizzi (Palermo Province) and Garcia reservoirs (Trapani Province). A comparative analysis of electron spectroscopy and first-principles studies on Cu(Pd) adsorption on MgO

Ultrathin MgO films were grown on a W(1 1 0) substrate while metastable impact electron (MIES) and photoelectron (UPS) spectra were measured in situ; apart from the valence band emission, no additional spectral features were detected. The oxide surface was exposed to metal atoms (Cu, Pd) at RT. A comparison with the DOS extracted from first-principles DFT calculations shows that the metal-induced intensity developing above the top of the O 2p valence band in the UP spectra under Cu(Pd) exposure is caused by Cu 3d (Pd 4d) emission. Methyl esters of four common bile acids, 3α-hydroxy-5-β-cholan-24-oic (lithocholic) acid, 3α, 7α-dihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic (chenodeoxycholic) acid, 3α,12α-dihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic (deoxycholic) acid and 3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic (cholic) acid, and 14 acetylated, trifluoroacetylated, mesylated and oxo derivatives of methyl 5β-cholan-24-oates were prepared and their 17O NMR spectra recorded. In spite of their relatively high molecular masses and the rigid molecular structure of the steroid skeleton, most of the oxygens included in these structures gave well resolved 17O NMR resonance lines at natural abundance in 0.25–0.5 M acetonitrile solutions at 75°C.
