Hyperspectral system for early detection of rottenness caused by Penicillium digitatum in mandarins

Abstract Nowadays, the detection of fruit infected with Penicillium sp. fungi on packing lines is carried out manually under ultraviolet illumination. Ultraviolet sources induce visible fluorescence of essential oils, present in the skin of citrus and which are released by the action of fungi, thus increasing the contrast between sound and rotten skin. Small bowel motility: relationship between smooth muscle contraction and electroenterogram signal.

A study is made to correlate the electrical and mechanical activity of the smooth muscle of the small bowel. Bioelectrical signal recording from the intestinal serosa (electroenterogram) comprises a slow wave (SW) and spike burst (SB), though only the latter reflects intestinal pressure. The electroenterogram and smooth muscle pressure are simultaneously recorded in the canine small bowel. Spectral and time series analysis of the electroenterogram are performed to establish those electrical parameters that best reflect intestinal pressure. Decoding Emotional Valence from Electroencephalographic Rhythmic Activity

We attempt to decode emotional valence from electroencephalographic rhythmic activity in a naturalistic setting. We employ a data-driven method developed in a previous study, Spectral Linear Discriminant Analysis, to discover the relationships between the classification task and independent neuronal sources, optimally utilizing multiple frequency bands. A detailed investigation of the classifier provides insight into the neuronal sources related with emotional valence, and the individual differences of the subjects in processing emotions. Infrared study of α–SiO2 single crystal under high pressure

We have measured high pressure α-quartz reflectance spectra in the mid infrared. We used single crystals, taking full profit of polarization. The quality of the spectra allows fitting the reflectance spectra. We have characterized the pressure evolution of E and A2 modes with increased precision, even in the spectral regions where they overlap. In addition, we have determined the TO-LO splitting of each mode. Some of the A2 modes show dramatic pressure variations of the LO-TO splitting, which cannot be explained only by changes in length and ionicity of individual bonds, requiring a new mechanism. Dielectric spectroscopy and molecular dynamics of methylene chloride CH2Cl2

Abstract Precise measurements of the complex permittivity of methylene chloride (CH 2 Cl 2 ) at 293 K have been made at frequencies in the range 50–310 GHz. These, when combined with earlier results, have made possible a determination of the complex permittivity over the entire zero to THz frequency region. These results show a distribution of dielectric relaxation times. The value of the Cole-Cole distribution parameter, α, was 0.03 and that of the relaxation time, τ, was 2.07 ps. Distribution of the relaxation times of the new relaxor 0.4PSN–0.3PMN–0.3PZN ceramics

Abstract The real distribution function of the relaxation times g ( τ ) of the relaxor ferroelectric ceramics 0.4PSN–0.3PMN–0.3PZN is calculated from the experimental dielectric spectra obtained in the frequency range from 20 Hz to 1.25 GHz. Below the Burns temperature T B  ≅ 380 K, where the clusters begin to appear on cooling, the distribution of the relaxation times is symmetrically shaped. On cooling, the permittivity and loss spectra strongly broaden and slow down. The g ( τ ) function becomes asymmetrically shaped and the second maximum appears. Nonresonant Spectral Hole Burning in the Slow Dielectric Response of Supercooled Liquids

Large-amplitude, low-frequency electric fields can be used to burn spectral holes in the dielectric response of supercooled propylene carbonate and glycerol. This ability to selectively modify the dielectric response establishes that the non-Debye behavior results from a distribution of relaxation times. Refilling of the spectral hole was consistent with a single recovery time that coincided with the peak in the distribution. Moreover, refilling occurred without significant broadening, which indicates negligible direct exchange between the degrees of freedom that responded to the field. Spectral theory of a Neumann-Poincare-type operator and analysis of cloaking due to anomalous localized resonance

The aim of this paper is to give a mathematical justification of cloaking due to anomalous localized resonance (CALR). We consider the dielectric problem with a source term in a structure with a layer of plasmonic material. Using layer potentials and symmetrization techniques, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the fixed source term for electromagnetic power dissipation to blow up as the loss parameter of the plasmonic material goes to zero. This condition is written in terms of the Newtonian potential of the source term. In the case of concentric disks, we make the condition even more explicit. Interactions of benzodiazepines with human serum albumin. Circular dichroism studies.

The circular dichroism spectra of 12 benzodiazepine derivatives studied in presence of human serum albumin are presented. Nearly all substances give biphasic extrinsic Cotton effects. At the CD maxima the molar ellipticities and the anisotropy factors are calculated. The influence of the chemical structure of the benzodiazepines on the induced Cotton effect is discussed. There is a linear correlation between the anisotropy factors and the logarithms of the partition coefficients of the substances. It is suggested that the phenyl ring of the benzodiazepine molecule is one of the essential groups for the binding of these substances to human serum albumin.
