Deconvolution of XPS spectra

The resolution of XPS spectra is limited mainly by instrumental parameters like the spectral line width of the exciting X-ray source and the finite energy resolution of the electron analyzer. If the line broadening functions resulting from the instrumental setup can be estimated and expressed by a spectrometer function, a mathematical recalculation of the intrinsic signal is possible by deconvolution. With the method presented in this paper, a resolution enhancement by a factor of 3 can be obtained. The high-frequency electrodes light sources (HFELS) are widely used as bright radiators of narrow and intensive spectral lines covering spectral region from VUV to IR. In this work we shall give a short overview of our experience in preparation of HFELS, containing He, H, Rb, Hg, Zn, Pb, As, Sb, Bi, Tl, Hg-Cd, Hg-Zn, Hg-Cd-Zn, Se-Te for different applications. Abstract Three squalene-type triterpenoids named concentricols B, C and D ( 1 – 3 ) were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of fruiting bodies of the xylariaceous ascomycete Daldinia concentrica . Their absolute structures were elucidated by analysis of 2D NMR, MS, IR and UV spectra, and the modified Mosher's method.

The effect of ISM absorption on stellar activity measurements and its relevance for exoplanet studies

Past UV and optical observations of stars hosting hot Jupiters have shown that some of these stars present an anomalously low chromospheric activity, significantly below the basal level. For WASP-13, observations have shown that the apparent lack of activity is possibly caused by absorption from the intervening ISM. Inspired by this result, we study the effect of ISM absorption on activity measurements (S and logR'$_{\rm HK}$ indices) for main-sequence late-type stars. Correcting the effect of stellar spots on ARIEL transmission spectra – II. The limb-darkening effect

This paper is part of an effort to correct the transmission spectra of a transiting planet orbiting an active star. In Paper I (Cracchiolo et al. 2020) we have demonstrated a methodology to minimize the potential bias induced by unocculted star spots on the transmission spectrum, assuming a spot model parameterized by filling factor and temperature. In this work we introduce the limb darkening effect, therefore the position of the spot in the stellar disk and the impact parameter of the transiting planet now play a key role. Photometric and spectroscopic variability of the B5IIIe star HD 171219

We analyzed the star HD 171219, one of the relatively bright Be stars observed in the seismo field of the CoRoT satellite, in order to determine its physical and pulsation characteristics. Classical Be stars are main-sequence objects of mainly B-type, whose spectra show, or have shown at some epoch, Balmer lines in emission and an infrared excess. Both characteristics are attributed to an equatorially concentrated circumstellar disk fed by non-periodic mass-loss episodes (outbursts).
