Study of the annealing conditions and photoelectrochemical characterization of a new iron oxide bi-layered nanostructure for water splitting
2016
Iron oxide nanostructures have emerged as promising materials for being used as photocatalysts for hydrogen production due to their advantageous properties. However, their low carrier mobility and short hole diffusion length limit their efficiency in water splitting. To overcome these drawbacks, in the present study, we synthetized a new hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) bi-layered nanostructure consisting of a top nanosphere layer and a nanotubular underneath one by electrochemical anodization. Annealing parameters such as temperature, heating rate and atmosphere were studied in detail in order to determine the optimum annealing conditions for the synthetized nanostructure. The obtained new bi-layere…
Ab initio calculations of zero-field splitting parameters in linear polyacenes
2003
Abstract The results of ab initio calculations of zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameters are presented for the linear polyacenes from benzene to pentacene. We show how the electron spin–spin (SS) parameters can be efficiently obtained from restricted high-spin open-shell wave functions (ROHF), and present calculations of these, comparing with the results of a recent multi-configurational self-consistent field approach. The SS parameters are obtained from electron SS coupling strengths evaluated as expectation values over the wave functions and from state-to-state spin–orbit (SO) interactions. The results for the two lowest triplet states of naphthalene demonstrate that excellent values can b…
Decoupled control scheme of the grid-connected split-source inverter for renewable energy sources
2016
Grid-connected power conversion systems for renewable energy sources must fulfill several requirements, including high efficiency, reduced cost and complexity, and, quite often, also boost capabilities from the dc sources to the ac power grid. For such applications, single-stage power converters with boost capabilities offer some potential advantages. Among several proposed options, split-source inverter (SSI) has been recently investigated. This paper proposes a decoupled control scheme for the SSIs, where the common mode term of the ac modulation signals is used to control the dc input current. Thus, the dc input current and ac output current can be controlled independently. The proposed …
Split-Delivery Capacitated Arc-Routing Problem: Lower Bound and Metaheuristic
2010
International audience; This paper proposes lower and upper bounds for the split-delivery capacitated arc-routing problem (SDCARP), a variant of the capacitated arc-routing problem in which an edge can be serviced by several vehicles. Recent papers on related problems in node routing have shown that this policy can bring significant savings. It is also more realistic in applications such as urban refuse collection, where a vehicle can become full in the middle of a street segment. This work presents the first lower bound for the SDCARP, computed with a cutting plane algorithm and an evolutionary local search reinforced by a multistart procedure and a variable neighborhood descent. Tests on …
Multiservice Optical Fibre Local Area Networks For Data Transmission And Telemetry In The Electric Power Industry
1986
The paper contains a review of a few of experimental optical fibre multiservice and multibranch local area networks /LANs/. Systems accomplish transmission, distribution and processing of analog or digital signals from numerous sources or measurement terminals. The authors put stress also on the possibility of combining transmission properties of fiber optic networks with fibre optic sensors. Several construction problems and chosen properties of multiport /multiterminal/ optical buses /networks/ have been considered. All examination systems of optical fibre LANs are discussed in respect of application them as telemetric, transmission, telesignaling and telecontrol systems for the power ele…
<title>Fiber optical intensity-ratio refractometer with digital display</title>
1994
Simplicity, cost efficiency, and higher fidelity compared to the single-channel design are the main advantages stimulating the recent interest on fiber optic intensity-ratio sensors. Optical and electronic designs of refractometric sensors of this kind are discussed here. Two optical schemes of retroreflective probes with one input and two output fibers are proposed. The probe sensitivity to liquid refractivity changes in the interval 1.33 < n < 1.41 is studied by computer simulation. An originally developed one-ADC-based signal processing circuit providing digital display of the intensity-ratio determined n-values is described as well.
Dynamic railroad inspection using the laser-air hybrid ultrasonic technique
2006
Laser-Air Hybrid Ultrasonic Technique (LAHUT) combines laser generation with air-coupled detection of ultrasound. The technique is non-contact and has the characteristic of operating from remote distances. Acoustic wave laser-generation apparatus can be metres away from the interrogated surface while air-coupled detection standoff can be on the order of several centimetres. The technique has the unique capability of interrogating structural materials in their true industrial environment. Dynamic tests are performed on parts with complex geometry, limited accessibility and curved surfaces. Also, dark and rough finish surfaces, which significantly reduce the efficiency of optical detection te…
Efficiency of Split-Way CVT's. A simplified model
2007
ABSTRACT In this paper, a general formula is obtained for the efficiency of all types of Split-Way CVT, consisting of one or two epicyclic trains, a number of fixed ratio gears and one variable speed unit (CVU). It is based on the application of the principle of virtual works and on the simplifying hypothesis that all the dissipation is lumped inside the CVU. The comparison with some experimental results from the literature shows a surprisingly good fit, also in the neighbourhoods of zero speed ratio. INTRODUCTION The possibility of changing the speed ratio continuously between the primary and the secondary shaft of a mechanical transmission is a very interesting topic, mainly in the automo…
A simple inverse procedure to determine heat flux on the tool in orthogonal cutting
2006
The applications of numerical simulation to machining processes have been more and more increasing in the last decade: today, a quite effective predictive capability has been reached, at least as far as global cutting variables (for instance cutting forces) are concerned. On the other hand, the capability to predict local cutting variables (i.e. stresses acting on the tool, temperature distribution, residual stresses in the machined surface) has to be furtherly improved, as well as effective experimental procedures to validate numerical results have to be developed. The aim of this paper is the proposition of an innovative approach, based on an simple inverse procedure, in order to identify…
