Iris haynei and I. atrofusca are two closely related narrow endemics distributed vicariously along an ecogeographical north-south gradient in Israel and the West Bank. To obtain baseline information of the taxonomic status, conservation and population history of these taxa, we investigated patterns of phenotypic variation and the partitioning of genetic variation within and among populations using dominant random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Piero Sraffa on utility and the 'subjective method' in the 1920s: A tentative appraisal of Sraffa's unpublished manuscripts

The paper reconstructs Sraffa's assessment of utility-based and individualistic explanations of demand in Marshallian economics in the light of some fresh evidence provided by Sraffa's unpublished manuscripts of the 1920s. It is shown that Sraffa criticised the standard Marshallian explanation of individual consumption choices, emphasised the independent measurement requirement in explanation, lacked enthusiasm for the heuristic potentialities of the 'subjective method' in economic theorising and strove for an analysis of the phenomena of interdependence in the sphere of production as well as in the sphere of consumption.
Affinities of European Upper Palaeolithic Homo sapiens and later human evolution

Abstract We investigate the evolutionary affinities of European Upper Palaeolithic populations, using cranial measurements and multivariate techniques. Results indicate that cranial morphology of these populations accords with long-term phyletic trends within Pleistocene hominids. The data indicate an interpretation of differential velocities of change, and results do not support the view that Neanderthals contributed to recent populations.

L'analyse comparative dans quatorze pays révèle les paradoxes de l'emploi féminin dans des contextes sociaux, démographiques, culturels et économiques, plus ou moins distants, à la lumière de données statistiques les plus récentes. Ces contrées reflètent une image pessimiste : en écho d'une segmentation du marché du travail, le chômage frappe particulièrement la jeunesse, les itinéraires des jeunes femmes ressemblent à un dédale d'incertitudes et de contradictions. Pourtant, certains pays leur offrent davantage d'opportunités.

The tools of classical and Renaissance rhetoric that Quentin Skinner uses in his Forensic Shakespeare (2014) are here applied to a contemporary context. Skinner’s discussion might have a fairly direct value for a genre of writing that most academics today must master, namely the rhetoric of applications. They have been seldom discussed from a rhetorical perspective, although knowledge of rhetoric is highly valuable for applicants, evaluators and those deciding between applications. Skinner’s book contains both advices for applicants and discussions on both the criteria of application and the possibilities of their revisions in case of innovative applications. peerReviewed

This article aims to explore the ways in which Estonian public broadcasting tackles one specific media service sphere; how television programmes for language minorities are created in a small country, how economics and European Union media policy have influenced this processes.
