Compressibility and structural stability of ultra-incompressible bimetallic interstitial carbides and nitrides
2012
We have investigated by means of high-pressure x-ray diffraction the structural stability of Pd 2Mo 3N, Ni 2Mo 3C 0.52N 0.48, Co 3Mo 3C 0.62N 0.38, and Fe 3Mo 3C. We have found that they remain stable in their ambient-pressure cubic phase at least up to 48 GPa. All of them have a bulk modulus larger than 330 GPa, the least compressible material being Fe 3Mo 3C, B 0 = 374(3) GPa. In addition, apparently a reduction of compressibility is detected as the carbon content is increased. The equation of state for each material is determined. A comparison with other refractory materials indicates that interstitial nitrides and carbides behave as ultra-incompressible materials. © 2012 American Physic…
An alternative and easy approach to fixed point results via simulation functions
2017
Abstract We discuss, extend, improve and enrich results on simulation functions established by several authors. Furthermore, by using Lemma 2.1 of Radenovic et al. [Bull. Iran. Math. Soc., 2012, 38, 625],we get much shorter and nicer proofs than the corresponding ones in the existing literature.
Partial data inverse problems for the Hodge Laplacian
2017
We prove uniqueness results for a Calderon type inverse problem for the Hodge Laplacian acting on graded forms on certain manifolds in three dimensions. In particular, we show that partial measurements of the relative-to-absolute or absolute-to-relative boundary value maps uniquely determine a zeroth order potential. The method is based on Carleman estimates for the Hodge Laplacian with relative or absolute boundary conditions, and on the construction of complex geometric optics solutions which reduce the Calderon type problem to a tensor tomography problem for 2-tensors. The arguments in this paper allow to establish partial data results for elliptic systems that generalize the scalar resu…
A Formal Passage From a System of Boltzmann Equations for Mixtures Towards a Vlasov-Euler System of Compressible Fluids
2019
A formal asymptotics leading from a system of Boltzmann equations for mixtures towards either Vlasov-Navier-Stokes or Vlasov-Stokes equations of incompressible fluids was established by the same authors and Etienne Bernard in: A Derivation of the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes Model for Aerosol Flows from Kinetic Theory Commun. Math. Sci., 15: 1703–1741 (2017) and A Derivation of the Vlasov-Stokes System for Aerosol Flows from the Kinetic Theory of Binary Gas Mixtures. KRM, 11: 43–69 (2018). With the same starting point but with a different scaling, we establish here a formal asymptotics leading to the Vlasov-Euler system of compressible fluids. Explicit formulas for the coupling terms are obtained i…
A stabilized finite element method for particulate two-phase flow equations laminar isothermal flow
1997
A finite element method for the solution of particulate two-phase flows is presented. The governing system has the form of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with unknown pressure. Therefore, the proposed method must capture the main features of stabilized methods used for incompressible as well as for compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Solution of the resulting nonlinear algebraic system of equations is based on the linearization using Newton method in conjunction with Generalized Minimal Residual iterative solver and Incomplete LU preconditioning. The method has been tested for three test cases including venturi tube flow, flow over backward step and mixing of flows in t-junction.
How and for whom does a positive affect intervention work in fibromyalgia: An analysis of mediators and moderators.
2019
Objectives: Psychological interventions designed to enhance positive affect are promising ways to promote adaptive functioning in people with chronic pain. However, few studies have addressed the efficacy of positive affect interventions in chronic pain populations and examined which patients can benefit more from them. The aim of the present study was to identify mediators and moderators of the best possible self intervention (BPS) in fibromyalgia patients. Methods: We used data from a previous randomized controlled trial that examined changes in pain interference, depression, self‐efficacy and quality of life after the BPS intervention. Results: Mediation analyses showed that depression med…
Fixed point results for $r$-$(\mathbf{\eta},\xi,\psi)$-contractive mappings of type (I), (II) and (III)
2013
In this paper, we introduce some classes of $r$-$(\eta,\xi,\psi)$-contractive mappings and prove results of fixed point in the setting of complete metric spaces. Some examples and an application to integral equations are given to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.
Los convenios internacionales y la promoción internacional del turismo sostenible
2020
Tourism has become one of the world’s most thriving industries and is a major source of environmental degradation. Therefore, since the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, the international community has adopted several international conventions at the sub-regional and global levels aimed at promoting the sustainable development of tourism. The latest manifestation of this common concern has been the adoption in September 2019 of the Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics, which aims to give new impetus to international and domestic efforts towards responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism. El turismo se ha convertido actualmente en una de las industrias más…
Health literacy and Infectious Diseases : Why does it matter?
2016
Objectives: Multifactorial interventions are crucial to arrest the threat posed by infectious diseases. Public involvement requires adequate information, but determinants such as health literacy can impact on the effective use of such knowledge. The influence of health literacy on infectious diseases is examined in this paper. Methods: Databases were searched from January 1999 through July 2015 seeking studies reporting on health literacy and infections such tuberculosis, malaria, and influenza, and infection-related behaviours such as vaccination and hand hygiene. HIV was excluded, as comprehensive reviews have already been published. Results: Studies were found on antibiotic knowledge and…
String kernels and high-quality data set for improved prediction of kinked helices in α-helical membrane proteins.
2011
The reasons for distortions from optimal α-helical geometry are widely unknown, but their influences on structural changes of proteins are significant. Hence, their prediction is a crucial problem in structural bioinformatics. For the particular case of kink prediction, we generated a data set of 132 membrane proteins containing 1014 manually labeled helices and examined the environment of kinks. Our sequence analysis confirms the great relevance of proline and reveals disproportionately high occurrences of glycine and serine at kink positions. The structural analysis shows significantly different solvent accessible surface area mean values for kinked and nonkinked helices. More important, …
