Photometric and spectroscopic variability of the B5IIIe star HD 171219
2017
We analyzed the star HD 171219, one of the relatively bright Be stars observed in the seismo field of the CoRoT satellite, in order to determine its physical and pulsation characteristics. Classical Be stars are main-sequence objects of mainly B-type, whose spectra show, or have shown at some epoch, Balmer lines in emission and an infrared excess. Both characteristics are attributed to an equatorially concentrated circumstellar disk fed by non-periodic mass-loss episodes (outbursts). Be stars often show nonradial pulsation gravity modes and, as more recently discovered, stochastically excited oscillations. Applying the CLEANEST algorithm to the high-cadence and highly photometrically precis…
State Estimation of a Nonlinear Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Model using an Extended Kalman Filter
2008
An Extended Kalman Filter is designed in order to estimate both state variables and wind velocity vector at the same time for a non conventional unmanned aircraft. The proposed observer uses few measurements, obtained by means of either conventional simple air data sensors or a low cost GPS. To cope with the low rate of the GPS with respect to the other sensors, the EKF algorithm has been modified to allow for a dual rate measurement model. State propagation is obtained by means of an accurate six degrees of freedom nonlinear model of the aircraft dynamics. To obtain joint estimation of state and disturbance, wind velocity components are included in the set of the state variables. Both stoc…
Gaia DR2 reveals a star formation burst in the disc 2-3 Gyr ago
2019
We use Gaia DR2 magnitudes, colours and parallaxes for stars with G<12 to explore a 15-dimensional space that includes simultaneously the initial mass function (IMF) and a non-parametric star formation history (SFH) for the Galactic disc. This inference is performed by combining the Besancon Galaxy Model fast approximate simulations (BGM FASt) and an approximate Bayesian computation algorithm. We find in Gaia DR2 data an imprint of a star formation burst 2-3 Gyr ago, in the Galactic thin disc domain, and a present star formation rate (SFR) of about 1 Msun. Our results show a decreasing trend of the SFR from 9-10 Gyr to 6-7 Gyr ago. This is consistent with the cosmological star formation …
Cooperative effects on the HS→LS relaxation in the [Fe(ptz)6](BF4)2 spin-crossover system
1992
Abstract The high-spin to low-spin (HS→LS) relaxation in the [Fe(ptz) 6 ](BF 4 ) 2 spin-crossover system deviates strongly from first-order kinetics because of cooperative effects of elastic origin. The shift in horizontal and vertical displacement of the potential wells of the initial and final state relative to each other due to the build-up of an “internal” pressure is estimated from spectroscopic measurements. The HS→LS relaxation as such is described by the theory of nonadiabatic multiphonon relaxation in the strong-coupling limit, with a Huang—Rhys factor S ≈ 45 which is much larger than the reduced energy gap p . The sigmoidal relaxation curves in [Fe(ptz) 6 ](BF 4 ) 2 result when a …
Presence and characterisation of verotoxin producing E. coli in fresh Italian pork sausages, and preparation and use of an antibiotic-resistant strai…
2005
One hundred and twenty six samples of fresh pork sausages were analysed-for the presence of verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC). Selective enrichment followed by DNA extraction and PCR amplification of the stx1 and stx2 genes highlighted the occurrence of the above mentioned genes in 20 out of 126 samples screened. From the stx positive enriched cultures, isolation was performed on CT-SMAC agar plates after immuno-magnetic separation of E. coli O157. Fifty three non-sorbitol fermenting isolates were obtained and further characterised, along with the reference strain E. coli ATCC 35150(T). All the isolates were characterised by PCR assays, assessing the presence of stx1, stx2, rfbE(O15…
Microenvironment-centred dynamics in aggressive B-cell lymphomas.
2012
Aggressive B-cell lymphomas share high proliferative and invasive attitudes and dismal prognosis despite heterogeneous biological features. In the interchained sequence of events leading to cancer progression, neoplastic clone-intrinsic molecular events play a major role. Nevertheless, microenvironment-related cues have progressively come into focus as true determinants for this process. The cancer-associated microenvironment is a complex network of nonneoplastic immune and stromal cells embedded in extracellular components, giving rise to a multifarious crosstalk with neoplastic cells towards the induction of a supportive milieu. The immunological and stromal microenvironments have been cl…
Kerguelen, un archipel sous haute surveillance
2016
Evidence for thermal equilibration in multifragmentation reactions probed with bremsstrahlung photons
2001
The production of nuclear bremsstrahlung photons (E$_{\gamma}>$ 30 MeV) has been studied in inclusive and exclusive measurements in four heavy-ion reactions at 60{\it A} MeV. The measured photon spectra, angular distributions and multiplicities indicate that a significant part of the hard-photons are emitted in secondary nucleon-nucleon collisions from a thermally equilibrated system. The observation of the thermal component in multi-fragment $^{36}$Ar+$^{197}$Au reactions suggests that the breakup of the thermalized source produced in this system occurs on a rather long time-scale.
DECORIN EFFECTS ON PROTEOMIC PROFILING OF BREAST CANCER CELLS: AN UPDATED STUDY
2015
The malignant carcinomas are characterized by several capabilities acquired by the neoplastic cells, among which the ability to invade the extracellular matrix (ECM) and to establish a crosstalk with several ECM components. Under this respect, the extracellular microenvironment is an entity extraordinarily rich of information with opposite signals. Our group has long undertaken the study of the effects of ECM molecules on the behavior of cancer cells in vitro. Among the studied molecules, the decorin was found to exert a non-permissive effect on the growth and motility of the transfected tumor cells. The decorin, belongs to the family of small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRP) and is involv…
