We study the price dynamics generated by a stochastic version of a Day–Huang type asset market model with heterogenous, interacting market participants. To facilitate the analysis, we introduce a methodology that allows us to assess the consequences of changes in uncertainty on the dynamics of an asset price process close to stable equilibria. In particular, we focus on noise-induced transitions between bull and bear states of the market under additive as well as parametric noise. Quantitative x-ray diffraction phase analysis of coarse airborne particulate collected by cascade impactor sampling

Mineralogical composition of Castellon (Spanish Mediterranean coast) atmospheric aerosol was studied by X-ray diffraction by sampling with a cascade impactor without filters. Quantitative phase analysis of natural phases present in the atmospheric coarse aerosol was performed using a modified version of the computer program MENGE, that uses the standardless X-ray method developed by Rius for the quantitative analysis of multiphase mixtures, adapted for PC running. Presence of quartz, calcite and gypsum was identified in the atmospheric aerosol and we have quantified their amounts using the standardless method.

Abstract Direct standardization (DS) and piecewise direct standardization (PDS) methods are applied to multivariate standardization of chemiluminescence signals using PLS model as the calibration model. The linear concentration interval of the chemiluminescence determination was determined. This interval was located using univariate robust calibration by least median of squares (LMS) method. Elucidating the constructs happiness and wellbeing: A mixed-methods approach

International audience; In this study we examine the constructs "happiness" and "wellbeing" in a sample of Canadian women and men in mid-adulthood. Through a sequential mixed-methods approach, we utilize Sen and Nussbaum's conceptualizations of capabilities to inform the themes generated from semi-structured interviews. We find that participants understand happiness and wellbeing as two distinct constructs that are illuminated in the metaphors happiness as balance and the gears of wellbeing. Precision sampling fuels precision oncology: an evolutionary perspective.

Intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) develops in malignant tumors. Precision sampling that captures this tumor variability is essential for the implementation of precision oncology. We highlight the necessity to update current sampling protocols and implement a strategy to ensure ITH detection and characterization. A cost-effective strategy for such sampling has been modeled in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC).

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The potential existence of spatial clusters in childhood cancer incidence is a debated topic. Identification of such clusters may help to better understand etiology and develop preventive strategies. We evaluated widely used statistical approaches to cluster detection in this context.; METHODS: Incidence of newly diagnosed childhood cancer (140/1,000,000 children under 15 years) and nephroblastoma (7/1,000,000) was simulated. Clusters of defined size (1-50) were randomly assembled on the district level in Germany. Each cluster was simulated with different relative risk levels (1-100). Cancer is relatively rare in childhood, but it contributes considerably to childhood mortality, years of life lost per person and late effects in survivors. Large populations need to be covered to set up meaningful studies of these rare conditions. Cancer registries ensure cancer surveillance, thus providing the basis for research as well as policy decisions. In this paper we examine coverage of childhood population by cancer registries in Europe and encourage national cancer registration. The novel CRP–albumin–lymphocyte (CALLY) index is an improved immunonutritive scoring system, based on serum C-reactive protein (CRP), serum albumin, and the lymphocyte count. It has shown promise as a prognostic index for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing resections. This study evaluated the prognostic ability of the CALLY index for patients with HCC undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE).
