Current Role of Intraoperative Frozen Section Examination of Sentinel Lymph Node in Early Breast Cancer.

2020

Background/Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the current role of frozen section in identifying patients who could benefit from an immediate axillary lymph node dissection (ALND), following the criteria of the ASOCOG Z0011 and IBCSG 23-10 trials. Patients and Methods: A retrospective review was performed involving 2,079 patients with early breast cancer who underwent conservative surgery or total mastectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy. Results: Sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy were 63.8% and 90.3%, respectively. Sensitivity was significantly higher (p<0.001) in finding macrometastases (81.8%) compared to micrometastases (11.9%). Frozen section was useful only in 7.7% of th…

Clinical and therapeutic features of acute cholecystitis in diabetic patients

2021

The present study aimed to compare the clinical, paraclinical, intraoperative findings, and postoperative complications in acute cholecystitis in diabetic patients vs. non-diabetic patients. A 2-year retrospective study was performed on the patients who underwent emergency cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis between 2017 and 2019 at the 4th Department of Surgery, Emergency University Hospital Bucharest. The diabetic subgroup numbered 46 eligible patients and the non-diabetic one 287 patients. Demographics, the severity of the clinical forms, biological variables (including white cell count, urea, creatinine, coagulation and liver function tests) comorbidity status, surgical approach, po…

Population-based study of breast cancer in older women: prognostic factors of relative survival and predictors of treatment

2012

Abstract Background A large proportion of women with breast cancer (BC) are elderly. However, there is a lack of information regarding BC prognostic factors and care in this population. The aims of this study were to assess the prognostic factors of relative survival (RS) among women with BC aged ≥ 75 years old and to identify the predictive factors of treatments administered to this population. Methods A population-based study was performed using data from the Cote d’Or breast and gynaecological cancer registry. Women aged 75 years and older with primary invasive BC and resident in Cote d’Or at the time of diagnosis made between January 1998 and December 2008 were retrospectively selected.…

A new case of radiation-induced breast angiosarcoma

2019

Highlights • A biopsy of any suspicious breast skin lesion after radiotherapy is recommended. • Patients with clinical anomalies post-breast cancer surgery and RT need attention. • The Angiosarcoma was cured due to surgery and high-dose neoadjuvant chemotherapy. • A correct 6 month follow-up is needed: check-ups, chest X-rays and ultrasound. • The survival of the patient suggests possible ways to manage this rare tumour type.

Non-invasive assessment of coronary artery stent patency with multislice CT: preliminary experience.

2005

To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of multislice computed tomography coronary angiography (MSCT-CA) in the detection of in-stent restenosis.Forty-two patients (33 male, 9 female, mean age 58+/-8 years) previously subjected to percutaneous implantation of coronary stent with suspected in-stent restenosis, underwent a 16-row MSCT (Sensation 16, Siemens) examination. The average time between stent implantation and MSCT-CA was 7.4+/-5.3 months. The following scan parameters were used: collimation 16x0.75 mm, rotation time 0.42 s, feed 3.0 mm/rot., kV 120, mAs 500. After administration of iodinated contrast material (Iomeprol 400 mgI/ml, 100 ml at 4 ml/s) and bolus chaser (40 ml of saline at 4 …

Cytogenetic study of angiosarcoma of the breast.

1994

Angiosarcoma of the breast is quite rare, and the development of cutaneous angiosarcoma after segmental mastectomy and radiation therapy is even less common. A cytogenetic analysis of a mammary angiosarcoma arising in a breast after previous irradiation and segmental mastectomy for infiltrating ductal carcinoma revealed multiple clonal rearrangements involving chromosomes X, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 15, 17, 20, and 22. No cytogenetically analyzed angiosarcomas of the breast have been reported before. Genes Chromosom Cancer 10:210–212 (1994). © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

ANTECEDENTES DEL ABASTECIMIENTO DE MADERA EN LA RIBERA DEL JÚCAR

2015

Wood's supply was an essential aspect for the Kingdom of Valencia during the medieval centuries. The large plain around the coast and the forest shortage caused, firstly, the development of supplying strategies and, secondly, the creation of specifical orders in order to guarantee it. In that sense, Júcar and its tributary Cabriel played an important role in the trunks traffic coming from the mountains of Cuenca. Also, the surrounding countryside was primordial in the procedure. In this article we are going to analyse the methods in use in the Almoravid period and the circumstances of the trunks navigation on the river after the conquest.

Prevalence of biliary lithiasis in the elderly people of a small town in Sicily

1992

The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of biliary lithiasis (BL) and its major associated factors in the elderly people of a small town in Sicily. All inhabitants over the age of 65 were interviewed and underwent a general physical examination, blood tests and ultrasonography of the gallbladder and biliary tracts. The final group included 328 subjects (162 men and 166 women), representing 63.1% of the population asked to participate, with a mean age of 74.3 +/- 6.8 years (range 65-95). The prevalence of BL (lithiasis in progress + subjects cholecystectomized for previous calculosis) was 18.6%. No male subject had been cholecystectomized. Prevalence was higher in women …
