Le sollecitazioni delle Corti e l’inerzia del legislatore in tema di suicidio assistito. Un confronto tra Italia e Inghilterra
2019
Starting from the analysis of the decision of the Italian Constitutional Court on the Cappato case, the essay is the occasion for a joint reflection between Italian constitutional law and comparative law on the subject of assisted suicide and euthanasia, which seems to determine the inertia of the legislators in the face of activism of the Courts, perpetually seeking a dialogue with the first. To suffer the most serious damage of these attitudes are the sick, who in this matter more than ever need certainty to the law.
Considerazioni sparse, in chiave comparatistica, sulle proposte di legge in materia di eutanasia e di suicidio medicalmente assistito
2019
The essay deals with proposed legislations, in Italy and in England, about euthanasia and assistance in dying. It aims to confront the different solutions in both legal systems, for the purpose of finding the best result for the respect of the dignity of people suffering for terminal illness.
La circoscritta (e puntellata) area di incostituzionalit dellart. 580 c.p. fra self-restraint della Corte costituzionale e perdurante iner…
2020
With the decision on the Cappato case the Constitutional Court did not create the right to medically assisted suicide, which, moreover, the constitutional order does not contemplate, but only identified a circumscribed area of unconstitutionality of art. 580 of the Italian Criminal Code, supporting it with regulatory and procedural props. In this way, the Court demonstrated its self-restraint respectful of Parliaments discretion and underlined the persistence of the need for legislative intervention in such a sensitive matter.
Trusted educational networks for the internationalization of open educational resources
2013
Global educational programs have become increasingly important in Higher Education and the training sector. One promising means of global collaboration is the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs). However, this opportunity has been slow to catch on, even though millions of learning objects are freely available around the world. This paper discusses key barriers to the use of OERs, and gives recommendations for better use of materials in international collaborations. A special focus is on the development of Trusted Educational Networks, and their use within recommendation mechanisms to enhance sharing in communities of trusted colleagues. peerReviewed
Arm security alternatives
2019
Many real-world scenarios such as protecting DRM, online payments and usage in NFC payments in embedded devices require a trustworthy “trusted execution environment” (TEE) platform. The TEE should run on the ARM architecture. That is popular in embedded devices. Furthermore, past experience has proved that such TEE platform should be available in source code form. Without the source code 3rd parties and user cannot be conducted code review audit. Lack of review put doubt on the system as a trustworthy environment. The popular Android OS supports various TEE implementations. Each TEE OS implementation has its own unique way of deploying trusted applications(trustlets) and its own distinct fe…
Ballasted Track Superstructures: Performance of Innovative Railway Sleepers
2012
A railway sleeper is the structural element which transversally connects the two rails by means of fastening components, thus ensuring its gauge. Its additional function is to firmly secure the track to the ballast and to distribute the loads transferred from railway carriages to the ballast. One of the most important parameters in the characterization of performance given by railway sleepers is represented by their lateral resistance to the sliding: the higher its value increases, the better the track stability becomes, thus reducing the frequency of maintenance interventions necessary to keep the superstructure efficient. This article focuses on the performance of two innovative railway s…
Data from: Constant, cycling, hot and cold thermal environments: strong effects on mean viability but not on genetic estimates
2012
It has frequently been suggested that trait heritabilities are environmentally sensitive, and there are genetic trade-offs between tolerating different environments such as hot and cold or constant and fluctuating temperatures. Future climate predictions suggest an increase in both temperatures and their fluctuations. How species will respond to these changes is uncertain, particularly as there is a lack of studies which compare genetic performances in constant vs. fluctuating environments. In this study, we used a nested full-sib/half-sib breeding design to examine how the genetic variances and heritabilities of egg-to-adult viability differ at high and low temperatures with and without da…
Net charge and polarizability of zeolitic Brønsted acidic sites
2007
The interacting induced-dipoles polarization model, implemented in our program POLAR, is used for the calculation of the effective polarizability of the zeolitic bridged OH group, which results much higher than that of the free silanol group. A high polarizability is also calculated for the bridged OH group with a Si4+, in the absence of Lewis-acid promotion of silanol by Al3+. The crystal polarizability is estimated from the Clausius-Mossotti relationship. Siliceous zeolites are low-permittivity isolators. The interaction of a weak base with the zeolitic OH can be considered as a local bond. Only when cations are located in the zeolite micropore, next to tetrahedra that contain trivalent c…
