Blends of Semiflexible Polymers: Interplay of Nematic Order and Phase Separation

Mixtures of semiflexible polymers with a mismatch in either their persistence lengths or their contour lengths are studied by Density Functional Theory and Molecular Dynamics simulation. Considering lyotropic solutions under good solvent conditions, the mole fraction and pressure is systematically varied for several cases of bending stiffness κ (the normalized persistence length) and chain length N. For binary mixtures with different chain length (i.e., NA=16, NB=32 or 64) but the same stiffness, isotropic-nematic phase coexistence is studied. Community detection of seismic point processes

In this paper, we combine robin and Local Indicators of Spatio-Temporal Association (LISTA) functions. robin is an R package to assess the robustness of the community structure of a network found by one or more methods to give indications about their reliability. We use it to propose a classification algorithm of events in a spatio-temporal point pattern, by means of the local second-order characteristics and the community detection procedure in network analysis. We demonstrate the proposed procedure on a real data analysis on seismic data.
Modelling analysis of distribution network filling process during intermittent supply

The paper presents the modeling results of the filling process of a water distribution network subjected to intermittent supply. The local tanks built by users for reducing their vulnerability to intermittent supply increase user water demand at the beginning of the service period and the time required for completely fill the network. Such a delicate process is responsible of the inequalities taking part among users. Users located in advantaged positions can receive water resources soon after the beginning of the service period while disadvantaged users have to wait until the network is full. Noise effect in a FitzHugh-Nagumo circuit driven by a bichromatic signal

We analyze the response of a nonlinear circuit exactly ruled by the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations. This circuit is submitted to a bichromatic signal including a high frequency and a low frequency. In absence of noise, we show that for an appropriate amplitude of the high frequency driving, the response of the circuit estimated at the low frequency can be optimized via the phenomenon of vibrational resonance. Next, we show that under certain conditions, noise can contribute to the effect of vibrational resonance. Colored noise is also considered. Our experimental results are confirmed by a numerical analysis.
