Addition of liraglutide in patients with Type 2 diabetes well controlled on metformin monotherapy improves several markers of vascular function
2012
Diabet. Med. 29, 1115–1118 (2012) Abstract Aims The aim of this study was to investigate the vascular effects of liraglutide in patients well controlled on metformin monotherapy. Methods Forty-four patients with Type 2 diabetes were included in the study. Main inclusion criteria were: pretreatment with metformin on a stable dosage, HbA1c < 53 mmol/mol (7.0%), age 30–65 years. Patients were randomized to receive additional liraglutide or to remain on metformin monotherapy. After 6 weeks (1.2 mg) and after 12 weeks (1.8 mg), venous blood was taken for the measurement of several laboratory markers characterizing vascular and endothelial function. In addition, retinal microvascular endothelia…

Pragmatic Analysis of Dyslipidemia Involvement in Coronary Artery Disease: A Narrative Review
2020
Background: Dyslipidemia is the main factor involved in the occurrence and progression of coronary artery disease. Objective: The research strategy is aimed at analyzing new data on the pathophysiology of dyslipidemia involvement in coronary artery disease, the modalities of atherogenic risk estimation and therapeutic advances. Method: Scientific articles published in PubMed from January 2017 to February 2018 were searched using the terms "dyslipidemia" and "ischemic heart disease". Results: PCSK9 contributes to the increase in serum levels of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and lipoprotein (a). The inflammation is involved in the progression of hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. Hype…

A biomechanical evaluation of methods of distal humerus fracture fixation using locking compression plates versus conventional reconstruction plates.
2004
OBJECTIVES To examine the biomechanical behavior of 2 techniques of double-plate osteosynthesis for fractures of the adult distal humerus using conventional reconstruction plates and locking compression plates. DESIGN Basic science study. SETTING Experimental in vitro study. PATIENTS/PARTICIPANTS Forty fresh-frozen human distal humeri specimens. INTERVENTION Four matched groups with 10 humeri each, median age 74 years (46-95), were created using similar bone mineral density values. Two standard configurations of double-plate osteosynthesis (dorsal or 90 degrees configuration) with either conventional reconstruction plates or locking compression plates were studied for biomechanical properti…

Evaluation of nitroglycerin effect on remote photoplethysmogram waveform acquired at green and near infra-red illumination
2017
Assessment of skin microcirculation provides diagnostically valuable information during the early stages of pathologies. The simple, cost-effective and intrusive alternative to existing circulation assessment methods is remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). The objective of the present pilot study was to reveal an effect on sublingual administration of 1 mg nitroglycerin on systemic hemodynamic parameters and rPPG waveforms, at 810 nm and 530nm illumination. The protocol comprised 3 minutes of baseline recording, 15 minutes recording of NTG effect, 2 minutes of arterial occlusion and the following 3 min reactive hyperemia. Two PPG signals were acquired from glabrous skin of the middle finger …

Background The aim of our study was to evaluate the feasibility of exercise cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (RTOF) and to assess right and left ventricular adaptation and aortic wall response to exercise in comparison with volunteers. Methods 11 RTOF and 11 volunteers underwent prospective CMR at rest and during exercise. A supine bicycle ergometer was employed to reach twice the resting heart rate during continuous exercise, blood pressure and heart rate were recorded. Bi-ventricular parameters and aortic stiffness were assessed using accelerated cine sequences and flow-encoding CMR. A t-test was used to compare values between groups. A Mann W…

IntroductionWork-life conflicts (WLC) may impact health, but few studies prospectively consider the impact of WLC on objective outcomes such as cardiovascular disease. Using data from the Gutenberg Health Study (GHS), we examined if WLC at baseline was associated with an increased five-year incidence of cardiovascular events (myocardial infarct, stroke, atrial fibrillation, peripheral artery disease, coronary artery disease, chronic heart failure, sudden cardiac death). We also considered if WLC was associated with incident hypertension and arterial stiffness and if the effects of WLC on cardiovascular health differ for men and women.MethodsA working subsample of the 15,010 GHS cohort parti…
