Isolation and characterization of hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria from Algerian coast

2017

Backgrounds The contamination of marine environments by hydrocarbons represents a global concern with consequences on ecosystems and human health. The removal of HC by physical and/or chemical methods is expensive and disrespectful of the environment. The use of HC degrading bacteria is a good alternative for environmental remediation (bioremediation). Objectives The Algerian coastline is exposed to several types of pollutions, including hydrocarbons. The aim was to explore the bioremediation potential of its contaminated harbors for the first time. Methods To identify the hydrocarbon degrading bacteria seawater samples were collected in Sidi fredj harbor (Algeria) and used to enrichment cu…

Comparative study of three satellite image time-series decomposition methods for vegetation change detection

2018

International audience; Satellite image time-series (SITS) methods have contributed notably to detection of global change over the last decades, for instance by tracking vegetation changes. Compared with multi-temporal change detection methods, temporally highly resolved SITS methods provide more information in a single analysis, for instance on the type and consistency of change. In particular, SITS decomposition methods show a great potential in extracting various components from non-stationary time series, which allows for an improved interpretation of the temporal variability. Even though many case studies have applied SITS decomposition methods, a systematic comparison of common algori…

Variation in Great Tit Nest Mass and Composition and Its Breeding Consequences: A Comparative Study in four Mediterranean Habitats

2013

Bird nests are structures whose properties affect breeding performance. Thus, the vast majority of bird species build their own characteristic nests, selecting appropriate materials to do so. However, in habitats where the availability of "ideal" materials is low, some ability to use alternative ones would be necessary, even at the cost of having breeding success reduced. The Great Tit (Parus major) breeds under widely different environmental conditions. Its nests are althought to be composed mainly of moss, although very few studies have quantified nest composition. Our target here was describing Great Tit nest mass and composition in four different Mediterranean habitats, and exploring th…

Trasparenza, whistleblowing e pubblica amministrazione. Elementi per una riflessione

2018

This chapter focuses on recent legislation that has concerned certain levels of the Public Administration, with particular reference to those interventions that are based on a constant process of empowering people within the usual place of work. In this sense, the focus is particularly on the tool called whistleblowing. Specifically, it is a practice aimed at indicating the presence of the violation of one or more rules within the usual place of work. In the chapter I dwell on some problematic aspects related to the relevant legislation also through some comparisons with the US legislation.

Post-fledging dependence period and onset of natal dispersal in Bearded Vultures (Gypaetus barbatus): new insights from GPS satellite telemetry.

2014

2011

The archaeological investigations (1998-1999) conducted in the area in front of the medieval castle of Butera (CL) have returned part of the internal courtyard of the building, equipped with a system of wells and siloi for water supply and granary. The stratigraphic relationships between the structures and the analysis of the material found inside the cisterns, as well as highlighting the different building phases during which the extensive collection system for water and grain was built (12th/13th-15th century ), allow us to have interesting indicators relating to the duration of circulation of the various pottery classes identified

Management of orphan symptoms: ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment†

2020

### Highlights There is no clear definition of orphan symptoms. There is a group of symptoms that are seldom evaluated in most symptom assessment tools which can be considered as orphan symptoms.1 These are generally prevalent symptoms that are unaddressed in clinical practice, yet often not reported by the patients or by healthcare professionals.2 Orphan symptoms may be defined as symptoms not regularly assessed in clinical practice, and consequently little studied and not properly treated. No epidemiological or clinical studies generally exist to gauge the prevalence of the symptoms chosen; nevertheless, these symptoms are distressing for patients and their families. Orphan symptoms remai…

Latent heat flux variability and response to drought stress of black poplar: A multi-platform multi-sensor remote and proximal sensing approach to re…

2022

Abstract High-throughput mapping of latent heat flux (λET) is critical to efforts to optimize water resources management and to accelerate forest tree breeding for improved drought tolerance. Ideally, investigation of the energy response at the tree level may promote tailored irrigation strategies and, thus, maximize crop biomass productivity. However, data availability is limited and planning experimental campaigns in the field can be highly operationally complex. To this end, a multi-platform multi-sensor observational approach is herein developed to dissect the λET signature of a black poplar (Populus nigra) breeding population (“POP6”) at the canopy level. POP6 comprised more than 4600 …
