Oil price risk in the Spanish stock market: An industry perspective

Abstract This study examines the sensitivity of the Spanish stock market at the industry level to movements in oil prices over the period 1993–2010, paying special attention to the presence of endogenously determined structural changes in the relationship between oil price changes and industry equity returns. The empirical results show that the degree of oil price exposure of Spanish industries is rather limited, although significant differences are found across industries. The oil price sensitivity is very weak in the 1990s, a period of fairly stable and low oil prices. Abstract An accelerated supply and demand of energy has resulted in an increased need for efficient energy storage options, where storing energy in hydrogen gas emerges as one of the most attractive. In this study, a singular proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis cell was designed using adequately low-cost materials, and tested using polarisation curves, cyclic voltammetry and AC impedance. SPARC experiments at the high-energy storage ring

The physics program of the SPARC collaboration at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) focuses on the study of collision phenomena in strong and even extreme electromagnetic fields and on the fundamental interactions between electrons and heavy nuclei up to bare uranium. Here we give a short overview on the challenging physics opportunities of the high-energy storage ring at FAIR for future experiments with heavy-ion beams at relativistic energies with particular emphasis on the basic beam properties to be expected.

First attempt of the measurement of the beam polarization at an accelerator with the optical electron polarimeter POLO

The conventional methods for measuring the polarization of electron beams are either time consuming, invasive or accurate only to a few percent. We developped a method to measure electron beam polarization by observing the light emitted by argon atoms following their excitation by the impact of polarized electrons. The degree of circular polarization of the emitted fluorescence is directly related to the electron polarization. We tested the polarimeter on a test GaAs source available at the MAMI electron accelerator in Mainz, Germany. Optimization of the Electron Emission From Carbon Nanotubes for Electron Cooling in ELENA

Electron cooling is a process that guarantees beam quality in low energy antimatter facilities. In ELENA the electron cooler allows to reduce the emittance blow-up of the antiproton beam, thus delivering highly focused and bright beams at the unprecedented low energy of 100 keV to the experiments. In order to have a "cold" beam at such low energy, the electron gun of the cooler must emit a monoenergetic and relatively intense electron beam. Simulations have shown that efficient cooling can be achieved with a 5 mA electron beam having transverse energy spread of less than 100 meV and longitudinal energy spread of about 1 meV. Location of holes in silicon-rich oxide as memory states

The induced changes of the flatband voltage by the location of holes in a silicon-rich oxide (SRO) film sandwiched between two thin SiO 2 layers [used as gate dielectric in a metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) capacitor] can be used as the two states of a memory cell. The principle of operation is based on holes permanently trapped in the SRO layer and reversibly moved up and down, close to the metal and the semiconductor, in order to obtain the two logic states of the memory. An electronic nose based on an array of six metal oxide semiconductor sensors was used to monitor the oxidative status of virgin olive oils (VOO) during storage. VOO samples, with and without phenolic compounds, were stored at 60 °C for 7 weeks. Once a week, absorbance at 232 and 270 nm, oxidized stability index, electronic nose, and sensory analysis were evaluated. Linear discriminant analysis models were constructed in order to classify samples according to oxidative levels.
