Subsurface chemistry of mantles of interstellar dust grains in dark molecular cores

2010

Context. The abundances of many observed compounds in interstellar molecular clouds still lack an explanation, despite extensive research that includes both gas and solid (dust-grain surface) phase reactions. Aims. We aim to qualitatively prove the idea that a hydrogen-poor subsurface chemistry on interstellar grains is responsible for at least some of these chemical "anomalies". This chemistry develops in the icy mantles when photodissociation reactions in the mantle release free hydrogen, which escapes the mantle via diffusion. This results in serious alterations of the chemical composition of the mantle because pores in the mantle provide surfaces for reactions in the new, hydrogen-poor …

STUDIEN ZUM VORGANG DER WASSERSTOFFÜBERTRAGUNG 731HYDROGENOLYSESTUDIEN VON SCHWEFEL-UND PHOSPHOR-VERBINDUNGEN AN RANEY-NICKEL (Ra-Ni)—EINE MATERIALSA…

1985

Abstract The desulfurization and dephosphorization with Raney-Nickel (Ra-Ni) is investigated under standard conditions using the following types of compounds: Mercaptanes. thioethers, di- and trisulfides, sulfonium salts, sulfoxides, sulfones, sulfonic acid derivatives, bidental thioethers before and after the chelation, tertiary phosphines and phosphites, phosphonium salts and amidophosphonium salts, phosphine-metal-complexes, model compounds containing sulfur and phosphorus in the same molecule and samples of aerosil the surface of which is modified with S- and P-functions. The degree of the desulfurization and dephosphorization is dependent on the amount and availability of the “structur…

Cyclocondensation reaction of 1,2-diamino-4-methylbenzene andp-substituted acetophenones

1993

1,2-Diamino-4-methylbenzene 1 reacts in the presence of sulphuric acid with 4-substituted acetophenones 2a-e yielding 2,4-diaryl-2,3-dihydro-2,8-dimethyl-1H-1,5-benzodiazepines 3a-e and as minor component 2,4-diaryl-2,3-dihydro-2,7-dimethyl-1H-1,5-benzodiazepines 4a-e. The ratio 3:4 is in the range of 7:3. The structure determination of the regioisomers was performed by NOE measurements.

Chemoenzymatische „Chiral-Pool”-Synthese von (+)-exo-Brevicomin aus Kohlenhydraten mit Fructose-1,6-diphosphat-Aldolase

1990

Chemoenzymatic “Chiral-Pool” Synthesis of (+)-exo-Brevicomin from Carbohydrates Using Fructose 1,6-Diphosphate Aldolase Fructose-1,6-diphosphate aldolase (EC 4.1.2.13) catalyzes the stereospecific aldol reaction between 1,3-dihydroxyacetone phosphate (4) and 5-oxohexanal (3) or its 5-dithiane-protected analog 8. The products of the aldol reactions are dephosphorylated with acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2). Whereas the aldol adduct of 3 cyclizes spontaneously to give the bicyclic brevicomin precursor 3, the adduct of 8 first has to be deprotected with sulfuryl chloride and wet silica gel. The resulting bicyclic α-hydroxy ketone 3 is reduced with LiAlH4 to form the 1,2-diol 14 which is then deox…

Reversible Solvent‐Exchange‐Driven Transformations in Multifunctional Coordination Polymers Based on Copper‐Containing Organosulfur Ligands

2014

The preparation by simple direct synthesis of a series of coordination polymers based on copper with chloride or bromide and dipyrimidinedisulfide is reported. The structural characterisations of these compounds reveal a rich structural variety as a result of the number of coordination modes available to the organosulfur ligand, in combination with the bridging capabilities of the halides. Interestingly, some of the polymers displayed fully reversible solvent exchange/removal crystal-to-crystal 2D to 0D and 2D to 2D transformations. These materials show multifunctional electronic properties. Thus, some of them are semiconductors and present weak antiferromagnetic interactions, and the CuI/C…

Different approaches in sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) conductivity measurements

2019

Ion conductivity of sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membranes with various degree of sulfonation (DS) was investigated using impedance analysis with different measuring cell configuration and ion conductivity was calculated from resistances of polymer membranes. SPEEK was synthesized from poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK) via sulfonation reaction in concentrated sulfuric acid (95-98%). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of membrane surface was performed to determine possible mechanical damage to the membrane during resistance measurements.

Determining sulfur-containing amino acids by capillary electrophoresis: A fast novel method for total homocyst(e)ine human plasma

1999

A high-performance capillary electrophoresis (HPCE) method based on laser-induced fluorescence detection is presented here. It enables the determination of sulfur-containing amino acids within 15 min. Fluorescence of sulfur-containing amino acids in plasma is linear over a range of 50-150 micromol/L for L-methionine, 5-100 micromol/L for L-homocysteine, and 50-200 micromol/L for L-cysteine. For homocysteine, we were able to detect 1 fmol injected, equivalent to a plasma concentration of 10 nmol/L. A similar sensitivity is present for cysteine, an even lower one being found for methionine. The intra- and interassay relative standard deviations are < 1%. High-performance liquid chromatography…

Modified photobehavior of carboxylic acid derivatives induced by protonation

1987

Abstract A series of carboxylic acid derivatives 1–6 containing a second interacting function have been converted into the corresponding O -protonated species or acylium ions upon treatment with 96% sulfuric acid or oleum, respectively, at room temperature. The resulting stable cations have been spectroscopically characterized and submitted to irradiation. Cis-trans photoisomerization was observed in the ionic speciesderived from trans -crotonic, fumaric and maleic acids, and maleic anhydride. By contrast protonated crotonolactone 5a+ was found to be photostable. Finally, protonated α-bromobutyrolactone 6a+ was clean and efficiently dehydrohalogenated to 5a+ upon irradiation. Since the norm…

Comparison of Water Adsorption Properties of Cellulose and Cellulose Nanocrystals Studied by Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Gravimetry

2017

The adsorption properties of water molecules on cellulose and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), isolated from defatted rice bran (DRB) by 55% sulfuric acid hydrolysis under sonication were investigated. The powdered samples of cellulose and CNCs were analysed by using near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) and gravimetry at 38% and 55% humidities. Small amounts of samples were dried under vacuum at 120°C and the NIR spectra of the dry samples and their spectra during the adsorption water molecules were measured by using an NIR spectrometer equipped with a transflectance accessory and a DTGS detector. The quantitative adsorption of water molecules by the samples was determined by gravimetry. Second a…
