Modulating carbohydrate-based hydrogels as viscoelastic lubricant substitute for articular cartilages

Viscosupplementation is a therapeutic approach for osteoarthritis treatment, where the synovial fluid, the natural lubricant of the joints, is replaced by viscoelastic solutions with rheological properties comparable or better than the starting material. This study presents the development of an innovative platform for viscosupplementation, based on the optimization of polysaccharide-based colloidal hydrogel, aiming to reduce on-site enzyme degradation and enhance the possibility of hyaluronic acid substitution with alternative biomaterials. Protein supplements consumption: a comparative study between the city centre and the suburbs of Palermo, Italy

Background: Protein supplements are extensively used among commercial gym users and athletes. Although demographic information amongst such consumption has been poorly investigated. The aim of this study is to compare protein supplement consumption in commercial gym users, both from the city centre and the suburbs of Palermo, Italy. Methods: A face-to-face questionnaire has been administered to 561 subjects. 207 from the city centre (CC) and 354 from the suburbs (SB) of Palermo, Italy. Effects of protein supplementation in fitness world: A 12-week cross-over studio

The aim of this project was to evaluate the effect of isolated protein supplementation in young amateur athletes. Sixteen subjects aged between 20 and 30 were recruited for this study. Before to start sports performance was assessed at T0, in all subjects, using physical performance test and evaluated body composition. Therefore, the subjects were randomly assigned in two groups (group A and B) of 8 subjects each. The group A start to intake 30 g of protein powder diluted in water after each training session (3 times a week) for six weeks (T0) whilst the group B was the placebo. A lack of food resources has been suggested to enhance the negative effects of pathogen infection on host populations, but this theory has received little investigation.
