Supporting the natural gas supply chain public policies through simulation methods: A dynamic performance management approach

2018

Natural gas is considered the transitional fuel par excellence between fossil and renewable sources, considering its low cost, greater efficiency and lesser impact on the environment. This is the reason why its demand levels have increased worldwide, requiring intervention of public and private stakeholders in order to meet these increments. The participation of diverse interconnected stakeholders (key actors) of the supplier-client form, constitutes a supply chain for natural gas, in which the effects of the application of public policy actions can be analysed in the time, using Dynamic Performance Management DPM methodology. The results of the model show the behaviour of the reserves, pro…

Two Simple Constructive algorithms for the Distributed Assembly Permutation Flowshop Scheduling Problem

2014

Nowadays, it is necessary to improve the management of complex supply chains which are often composed of multi-plant facilities. This paper proposes a Distributed Assembly Permutation Flowshop Scheduling Problem (DAPFSP). This problem is a generalization of the Distributed Permutation Flowshop Scheduling Problem (DPFSP) presented by Naderi and Ruiz (Comput Oper Res, 37(4):754–768, 2010). The first stage of the DAPFSP is composed of f identical production factories. Each center is a flowshop that produces jobs that have to be assembled into final products in a second assembly stage. The objective is to minimize the makespan. Two simple constructive algorithms are proposed to solve the proble…

Blending Collaborative Governance and Dynamic Performance Management to Foster Policy Coordination in Renewable Energy Supply Chains

2020

As the use of renewable energy is growing worldwide, the wind industry is being endorsed as a promising source for clean energy supply. In this context, the strategic management of the supply chain is fundamental to pursue a steady expansion of renewable energy. However, the fragmentation between energy policy design and implementation has been considered as a major cause threatening the effectiveness in managing the supply chain. This problem has been provoked mainly by an unsynchronized and uncoordinated decision-making process that involves public and private institutions. This chapter proposes the adoption of a dynamic performance management approach for enhancing a collaborative govern…

Economic analysis and energy valorisation of by-products of the wine supply chain: the case of the 'Mamertino wine PDO'

2018

The paper reports the analysis of biomass derived from maintenance of a vineyard, to assess its potential as an alternative energy source, instead of the usual disposal of the wine supply chain’s residuals. The site studied is within the province of Messina, Sicily, in the area of Mamertino wine PDO, a wine of superior quality. The analysis suggests that use of this kind of biomass may allow a fossil fuel such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to be replaced by a wine wood chip biomass boiler, thus meeting economic and environmental criteria by reason of recycling for sustainability.

An evaluation of the environmental factors for supply chain strategy decisions using grey systems and composite indicators

2020

[EN] The purpose of this work is to assess the importance of environmental factors in a supply chain with four partners as a preliminary step to select the competitive strategies and objectives. To achieve this purpose, a real case study was carried out in a footwear supply chain, in which two approaches were used: the grey system theory and uncertainty analysis tools for composite indicators. In order to validate both approaches, a seven-phase research methodology was developed and applied to our case study. In addition, the priorization of environmental factors was calculated individually for each partner. The results allow managers to establish the competitive strategy that best suits th…

Cyclic Dynamic Evaluation of Logistics Services Stakeholders Based on System with OFN Model

2021

The challenge for enterprises and supply chains is to deliver successful logistics services in compliance with their aims. Logistics services are affected by many stakeholders. Recognizing their impact on the undertaken services is important for the planning and execution of a sufficiently rigorous stakeholder management process. The aim of the paper is to present a new approach to the analysis of stakeholders - cyclic dynamic evaluation, which could be used in service management, such as in logistics services. We present a novel fuzzy inference system based on the mathematical apparatus of Ordered Fuzzy Numbers (OFNs). The evaluation of stakeholders consists in assessing key factors as - f…

Enterprise System Implementation in a Franchise Context: An Action Case Study

2015

Abstract This research paper reports on a study focusing on a franchise relationship that utilizes an enterprise system (ES) to optimize its supply chain. The ES is in its post-implementation phase; however, the franchisee has challenges with inventory management due to poor data quality, which causes problems with vendor analysis and revenue control. An action case study was carried out to identify and diagnose the source of the problem, and interventions were implemented and evaluated. The findings demonstrate that several of the challenges related to poor data quality in the supply chain were influenced by problems of a socio-technical character. These included a lack of understanding of…

Taking Organizational Implementation Seriously: The Case of IOS Implementation

2006

Despite of the rapid technical development, failures in information systems implementation are common and it seems obvious that the implementation of inter-organizational systems (IOS) include all the same possibilities for failures as intra-organizational systems - and unfortunately even some more. In this paper, we present some empirically proven means for avoiding problems during the implementation of IOSs. Our argumentation is based on the idea of organizational implementation of information systems, where the phases before and after the technical implementation are considered to be the most critical ones. The data from a case study are used to illustrate and support the ideas presented.

Stakeholder engagement toward value co-creation in the F&B packaging industry

2019

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how a food and beverage packaging company manages internal and external stakeholders to achieve sustainable innovation outcomes, as well as to contribute to the spread of sustainability paths along the supply chain, on which it operates. Design/methodology/approach A case study approach was chosen and applied multiple methods of semi-structured interviews and a documentation review. Findings Results reveal a structured stakeholder relationship management, according to which the packaging company acts through a stakeholder engagement process to both acquire and share new knowledge to address stakeholder pressure. Co-creation models result in a…
