Grafting of (3-chloropropyl)-trimethoxy silane on halloysite nanotubes surface

2021

Modified halloysite nanotubes (HNTs-Cl) were synthesized by a coupling reaction with (3-chloropropyl) trimethoxysilane (CPTMS). The incorporation of chloro-silane onto HNTs surface creates HNTs-Cl, which has great chemical activity and is considered a good candidate as an active site that reacts with other active molecules in order to create new materials with great applications in chemical engineering and nanotechnology. The value of this work lies in the fact that improving the degree of grafting of chloro-silane onto the HNT’s surface has been accomplished by incorporation of HNTs with CPTMS under different experimental conditions. Many parameters, such as the dispersing media, the molar…

ChemInform Abstract: Photoinduced Functionalization of the C-20 Methyl Group of the Nor-diterpene Atractyligenin.

2010

Abstract Irradiation of the nor-diterpene atractyligenin at λ =254 nm in methanol gave, on one hand, the decarboxylation product, and provided, on the other hand, the transformation of the C-20 angular methyl into a methylene-carbomethoxy group. A photochemical pathway involving formation of C-19/C-20 bond is suggested.

Converging and Diverging Synthetic Strategies to Tetradentate (N,N′)-Diaminomethyl,(P,P′)-Ferrocenyl Ligands: Influence of tert-Butyl Groups on Ferro…

2015

Hexasubstituted hybrid tetradentate (N,N′,P,P′)-ferrocenes bearing phosphino and aminomethyl groups, plus hindering tert-butyl moieties, were synthesized by using two different strategies: a “diverging” synthesis involving successive functionalization of preformed di-tert-butylated ferrocene and a “converging” assembly of the species from appropriately substituted cyclopentadienyl rings. While the new cyclopentadienyl salts formed are of interest, their assembly with iron dichloride used as a “converging” way to produce tetradentate ferrocene ligands presented several drawbacks. Conversely, the synthesis of new tert-butylated (aminomethyl)ferrocene derivatives was found convenient to furthe…

ChemInform Abstract: ortho-Functionalized Aryltetrazines by Direct Palladium-Catalyzed C-H Halogenation: Application to Fast Electrophilic Fluorinati…

2016

A general catalyzed direct C-H functionalization of s-tetrazines is reported. Under mild reaction conditions, N-directed ortho-C-H activation of tetrazines allows the introduction of various functional groups, thus forming carbon-heteroatom bonds: C-X (X=I, Br, Cl) and C-O. Based on this methodology, we developed electrophilic mono- and poly-ortho-fluorination of tetrazines. Microwave irradiation was optimized to afford fluorinated s-aryltetrazines, with satisfactory selectivity, within only ten minutes. This work provides an efficient and practical entry for further accessing highly substituted tetrazine derivatives (iodo, bromo, chloro, fluoro, and acetate precursors). It gives access to …

Novel method for functionalising and patterning textile composites:Liquid resin print

2016

Abstract The paper reports a novel method of integrating resin into continuous textile reinforcement. The method presents a print of liquid reactive resin into textile preforms. A series of targeted injections forms a patch which upon consolidation and curing transforms into a stiff region continuously spanning through preform thickness. Enhancing the injected resin with conductive phase allows creating a pattern of patches with controlled dimensions and added functionalities. Patterned composites reveal features which are not typical for conventional composites such as fibre bridged interfaces, regular thickness variation, and gradient matrix properties. The presented study explores the ro…

Characterization of mesoporous silica and its pseudomorphically transformed derivative by gas and liquid adsorption

2007

Abstract Pseudomorphism is a term introduced by mineralogist to describe phase transformation that does not change the shape of a material. Pseudomorphic process, assisted by surfactants, for mesoporous pre-shaped silica particles allows to narrow the mesopore size distribution, to increase the surface area and the pore volume without changing the initial shape of silica particles. The textural, chemical and mechanical comparisons between commercial silica LiChrospher 60 (Merck) and its pseudomorphic transformation at constant particle size and morphology opens a unique opportunity to understand the effects of such mesoporosity transformation and judge the performance of both types of mater…

Covalent and Ionic Functionalization of HLN Layered Perovskite by Sonochemical Methods

2017

We describe the functionalization of the layered perovskite HLaNb2O7 with n-propanol, n-decanol, 3-mercaptopropyl-trimethoxysilane, imidazole, n-decylamine, and histamine. The use of sonication is found to significantly improve the reaction yield and to reduce the reaction time, compared to conventional thermal treatment under reflux. The obtained intercalates are thoroughly characterized through the use of several complementary experimental techniques (scanning electron microscopy, IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, magic-angle spinning NMR), clarifying their structure and chemical bonding. The implications for the design of inorganic–organic composite material…

A Straightforward Approach to Multifunctional Graphene

2019

Graphene has been covalently functionalized through a one-pot reductive pathway using graphite intercalation compounds (GICs), in particular KC8 , with three different orthogonally protected derivatives of 4-aminobenzylamine. This novel multifunctional platform exhibits excellent bulk functionalization homogeneity (Hbulk ) and degree of addition while preserving the chemical functionalities of the organic addends through different protecting groups, namely: tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc), benzyloxycarbonyl (Cbz) and phthalimide (Pht). We have employed (temperature-dependent) statistical Raman spectroscopy (SRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), magic angle spinning solid state 13 C NMR …

Carbon Nano-onions: Potassium Intercalation and Reductive Covalent Functionalization

2021

Herein we report the synthesis of covalently functionalized carbon nano-onions (CNOs) via a reductive approach using unprecedented alkali-metal CNO intercalation compounds. For the first time, an in situ Raman study of the controlled intercalation process with potassium has been carried out revealing a Fano resonance in highly doped CNOs. The intercalation was further confirmed by electron energy loss spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Moreover, the experimental results have been rationalized with DFT calculations. Covalently functionalized CNO derivatives were synthesized by using phenyl iodide and n-hexyl iodide as electrophiles in model nucleophilic substitution reactions. The functiona…

Surface modification of luminescent lanthanide phosphate nanorods with cationic "Quat-primer" polymers.

2011

"Quat-primer" polymers bearing cationic groups were investigated as a surface modifier for Tb-doped cerium phosphate green-emitting fluorescent nanorods (NRs). The NRs were synthesized by a microwave process without using any complex agents or ligands and were characterized with different analytical tools such as X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Poly(ethyleneimine) partially quarternized with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride was synthesized separately and characterized in detail. (1)H and (13)C NMR spectroscopic studies revealed that the quaternary ammonium group was covalently attached to the polymer. UV-vis spectroscopy was used to exam…
