Histological evaluation of bone repair using beta-Tricalcium Phosphate

2010

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to evaluate bone repair in defects induced in the cranium of Wistar rats using ?-tricalcium phosphate. Study Design: In this research, we used 30 rats, randomly distributed in three groups of 10 animals (G1, G2 and G3), corresponding respectively to time of histological evaluation (7, 15 and 30 days). This was a paired study, a defect being induced in the parietal bone on either side of the median sagittal suture of the animals, being the left-hand side the experimental subgroup (filled by biomaterial) and the right control. The histological evaluation was performed by means of light microscopy. The collected data were submitted to the Fisher Exa…

Efficacy and safety of bosutinib (BOS) for Philadelphia chromosome–positive (Ph+) leukemia in older versus younger patients (pts).

2012

6511 Background: BOS is an oral dual Src/Abl kinase inhibitor with potent activity in Ph+ leukemia. Methods: Efficacy and safety of BOS 500 mg/d was evaluated in older (≥65 y; n = 119) and younger (<65 y; n = 451) pts in 3 cohorts: chronic phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CP CML) after imatinib (IM; CP2L cohort; n = 287); CP CML after IM + dasatinib (DAS) and/or nilotinib (NIL; CP3L cohort; n = 119); and accelerated/blast phase (AP/BP) CML or acute lymphoblastic leukemia after IM ± DAS and/or NIL (ADV cohort; n = 164). Results: Baseline events (≥65 y vs <65 y) included respiratory disorders (35% vs 13%), cardiac disorders (29% vs 9%), and diabetes (4% vs 4%). Median baseline medicatio…

Naphthalene production by microorganisms associated with termites: Evidence from a microcosm experiment

2009

Abstract There have been several reports published which suggest that it is possible that the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) naphthalene (NAPH), phenanthrene (PHEN) and perylene (PERY) in tropical environments have a biological source. This source might be related to the activity of termites or their associated microorganisms. We aimed to provide direct evidence for the biological production of NAPH, PHEN and PERY by conducting microcosm experiments in the State of Tocantins, Brazil, in which termite nests (with or without termites) were placed in an enclosed environment in which we controlled all PAH fluxes and monitored changes of PAH stocks. The experiments were carried out with…

DENSIFY/SCALE DOWN. THE ARCHIPELAGO AS A RESPONSE

2020

Large stocks of peatland carbon and nitrogen are vulnerable to permafrost thaw

2020

Significance Over many millennia, northern peatlands have accumulated large amounts of carbon and nitrogen, thus cooling the global climate. Over shorter timescales, peatland disturbances can trigger losses of peat and release of greenhouses gases. Despite their importance to the global climate, peatlands remain poorly mapped, and the vulnerability of permafrost peatlands to warming is uncertain. This study compiles over 7,000 field observations to present a data-driven map of northern peatlands and their carbon and nitrogen stocks. We use these maps to model the impact of permafrost thaw on peatlands and find that warming will likely shift the greenhouse gas balance of northern peatlands. …

Il nobile casato dei Ventimiglia e Donna Felice Ventimiglia Barberini

2017

Co-citation Percentile Rank and JYUcite : a new network-standardized output-level citation influence metric and its implementation using Dimensions A…

2022

AbstractJudging value of scholarly outputs quantitatively remains a difficult but unavoidable challenge. Most of the proposed solutions suffer from three fundamental shortcomings: they involve (i) the concept of journal, in one way or another, (ii) calculating arithmetic averages from extremely skewed distributions, and (iii) binning data by calendar year. Here, we introduce a new metric Co-citation Percentile Rank (CPR), that relates the current citation rate of the target output taken at resolution of days since first citable, to the distribution of current citation rates of outputs in its co-citation set, as its percentile rank in that set. We explore some of its properties with an examp…

JYU-malli : keskitetty julkaisutiedonkeruu Jyväskylän yliopistossa

2020

Drivers and outcomes of consumer engagement : Insights from mobile money usage in Ghana

2019

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the drivers of consumer engagement and its consequences via the experiences of mobile money services’ users in Ghana and to discuss its implications for the society, financial service innovation, delivery and operations. Design/methodology/approach A pre-tested survey instrument was used with a sample of 595 mobile money services users in Ghana. SmartPLS application was used to analyze the data and report findings. Findings The study shows that perceived risk, consumer empowerment, subjective norm, performance expectancy and effort expectancy influence the affect component of consumer engagement and explain around half of its variance. The ef…

Occurrence of rhizobia in the gut of the higher termite Nasutitermes nigriceps

2006

Wood-eating termites feed on a diet highly deficient in nitrogen. They must complement their diet with the aid of nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Nitrogen fixation in the gut has been demonstrated, but information about nitrogen-fixing bacteria in pure culture is scarce. From the higher termite Nasutitermes nigriceps the symbiotic bacterial strain M3A was isolated, which thrives in the hindgut contents. The Gram-negative strain exhibited similarities to the species of the genus Ensifer (including Sinorhizobium) on the basis of morphological and physiological/biochemical features. The 16S rRNA gene analysis showed the highest sequence similarity of the isolate M3A to Ensifer adhaerens (>99%; ATCC …
