What motivates the adoption of green restaurant products and services? A systematic review and future research agenda
2021
Issues regarding green restaurants have received significant scholarly and practitioner attention in the last decade, particularly concerning why consumers adopt green restaurants. Although several reviews exist on green hospitality, a comprehensive review of the literature on consumers' green restaurant adoption is currently lacking. The following systematic literature review examines 50 research studies published on the consumer adoption of green restaurant services to address this gap accordingly. Through a detailed content analysis, the research profile and thematic analysis are presented. The review further identifies four key thematic foci: (a) consumer behavior variables studied, (b)…
Comparison of the genotoxic and apoptosis-inducing properties of ganciclovir and penciclovir in Chinese hamster ovary cells transfected with the thym…
2000
We studied the genotoxic and apoptosis-inducing properties of ganciclovir (GCV) and penciclovir (PCV) using Chinese hamster ovary cells stably transfected with the thymidine kinase (tk) gene of herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1). Cells expressing HSVtk were 300 and 100 times more sensitive than their isogenic HSVtk- counterparts to the cytotoxic effects of GCV and PCV, respectively. Using radiolabeled drugs, GCV was found to be incorporated into the genomic DNA much more effectively than PCV. GCV was highly potent in inducing chromosomal aberrations compared with PCV, which provoked less sister chromatid exchanges and chromosomal changes using equimolar or equitoxic doses. For both agents, apop…
Liposomally-entrapped ganciclovir for the treatment of cytomegalovirus retinitis in AIDS patients
1992
Treatment of retinitis by cytomegalovirus (CMV) in AIDS patients requires frequent repetitive injections of intravitreal ganciclovir (GCV). This study was undertaken to establish experimentally whether the intravitreal application of liposomally-entrapped GCV could prolong intraocular therapeutic levels when compared with the intravitreal injection of free GCV, and the clinical effectiveness of this approach in AIDS patients. Intraocular concentration of GCV was determined by means of an ELISA test in rabbit vitreous 2, 3, 7, and 14 days after a single intravitreal injection of either different doses of the free drug (0.2-20 mg) or 1 mg of liposomally-entrapped GCV. After 72 h, only the vit…
Role of medical history and medication use in the aetiology of upper aerodigestive tract cancers in Europe: the ARCAGE study
2012
ABSTRACT Background The study aimed to investigate the role of medical history (skin warts, Candida albicans, herpetic lesions, heartburn, regurgitation) and medication use (for heartburn; for regurgitation; aspirin) in the aetiology of upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) cancer. Methods A multicentre (10 European countries) case–control study [Alcohol-Related CAncers and GEnetic susceptibility (ARCAGE) project]. Results There were 1779 cases of UADT cancer and 1993 controls. History of warts or C. albicans infection was associated with a reduced risk [odds ratio (OR) 0.80, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.68–0.94 and OR 0.73, 95% CI 0.60–0.89, respectively] but there was no association with her…
Men’s Family Breadwinning in Today’s Norway: A Blind Spot in the Strive for Gender Equality.
2020
The Nordics are known as countries of gender equality. Still, the heterosexual gender and labour division arrangement in the nuclear family to a large degree persists. This particularly seems to be...
Role for Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha in Murine Cytomegalovirus Transcriptional Reactivation in Latently Infected Lungs
2004
ABSTRACT Interstitial pneumonia is a major clinical manifestation of primary or recurrent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in immunocompromised recipients of a bone marrow transplant. In a murine model, lungs were identified as a prominent site of CMV latency and recurrence. Pulmonary latency of murine CMV is characterized by high viral genome burden and a low incidence of variegated immediate-early (IE) gene expression, reflecting a sporadic activity of the major IE promoters (MIEPs) and enhancer. The enhancer-flanking promoters MIEP1/3 and MIEP2 are switched on and off during latency in a ratio of ∼2:1. MIEP1/3 latency-associated activity generates the IE1 transcript of the ie1/3 transcrip…
A Machine Learning Approach for Fall Detection and Daily Living Activity Recognition
2019
The number of older people in western countries is constantly increasing. Most of them prefer to live independently and are susceptible to fall incidents. Falls often lead to serious or even fatal injuries which are the leading cause of death for elderlies. To address this problem, it is essential to develop robust fall detection systems. In this context, we develop a machine learning framework for fall detection and daily living activity recognition. We use acceleration and angular velocity data from two public databases to recognize seven different activities, including falls and activities of daily living. From the acceleration and angular velocity data, we extract time- and frequency-do…
Adaptive quantized control of uncertain nonlinear rigid body systems
2023
This paper investigates the attitude tracking control problem for uncertain nonlinear rigid body systems, where both inputs and states are quantized. It is common in networked control systems that sensor and control signals are quantized before they are transmitted via a communication network. An adaptive backstepping control algorithm is developed for a class of uncertain multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems where a class of sector bounded quantizers is considered. It is shown that all the closed-loop signals are ensured uniformly bounded and tracking is achieved. Further, the tracking errors are shown to converge towards a compact set containing the origin and the set can be made…
Student teachers’ responsible use of ICT: Examining two samples in Spain and Norway
2020
Information and communication technology (ICT) has become an important component of initial teacher education (ITE) in Europe and in the continuous professional development of practising teachers. The development of professional digital competence (PDC) is emerging as an essential part of teacher education. Due to the increasing use of ICT and the growing number of online teaching and learning resources, the responsible use of ICT has become one of the key aspects of PDC. For the purpose of this paper, the responsible use of ICT includes privacy issues, cyberbullying and the ability to evaluate digital content. We examine Spanish and Norwegian student teachers' perceived competence in priva…
How pedagogical agents communicate with students: A two-phase systematic review
2022
Technological advancements have improved the capabilities of pedagogical agents to communicate with students. However, an increased use of pedagogical agents in learning environments calls for a deeper understanding of student–agent communication to assess the effectiveness of pedagogical agents in learning. This study is a two-phase systematic review of scientific papers on pedagogical agent communication research published between 2010 and 2020, including review papers and original research papers. In the first phase, this study analyses literature reviews and meta-analyses to find the status and research gaps. The findings indicate that pedagogical agents' characteristics and impact on l…
