From sweeteners to cell phones—Cancer myths and beliefs among journalism undergraduates

OBJECTIVE The media are an important source of health information that can help people make their own medical decisions. However, medical news can also transmit biases produced by different factors, such as the previously held beliefs of journalists. This study identifies which cancer myths are more popular among future journalists and whether their beliefs are related to their chosen source of health information. Sugar consumption in Spain has remained constant at around 80 g/day since the 1970s. Although intake as sugar has fallen considerably, to around 13.5 g/person/day, the intake in processed foods has risen. Meanwhile, caries prevalence is falling or stabilizing. Long-term ISO 23936-2 sweet oil ageing of HNBR

Abstract A hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) compound is subjected to ageing in a simulated oil and gas environment in accordance with ISO 23936-2 standard at two elevated temperatures (130 °C and 150 °C) for a period of up to 9 months. Shore D hardness, thermal expansion, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, compression and compression set (CS) measurements are made before and after the chemical exposure. Using repeated ingestion to determine the effect of sweetness, viscosity and oiliness on temporal perception of soymilk astringency

Abstract Astringency is a persistent sensation which increases upon repeated ingestion. To evaluate the effect of viscosity, sucrose and oil on perception of astringency during consumption of soymilk, a sequential sipping time–intensity (TI) procedure was utilized. For each soymilk, judges sipped the first of four ingestions and initiated the continuous recording of astringency intensity. Each sip was expectorated at 10 s after ingestion, and sipped 10 s after expectoration of the previous stimulus. After the fourth sample, judges rated astringency for 30 s. The Independent Biological Activity of Bacillus thuringiensis Cry23Aa Protein Against Cylas puncticollis

The Cry23Aa/Cry37Aa proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) have been described toxic to Cylas puncticollis larvae. In general, it is believed that Cry23Aa and Cry37Aa act jointly to exert the insecticidal activity, while there is no evidence of their toxicity individually. Therefore, in the present study, the contribution of each protein in the insecticidal activity toward C. puncticollis larvae has been assessed. The results showed that both proteins were toxic for C. puncticollis larvae when tested individually.
