Niemcy, Rosja i kwestia polska w publicystyce Jędrzeja Giertycha na łamach "Horyzontów" paryskich (1956-1971)

2017

The liberalization of the communist system in mid-1950s, disillusionment with the policy of the West, fears connected with West German revisionism, and dwindling chances of change in the situation of Central-Eastern Europe contributed to a differentiation of attitudes among the Polish emigrants. Some of them, notably the nationalists, voiced the need to seek compromise with Russia. This led to the emergence of a pro-Russian option alongside the still dominant pro-Western one. The thesis on the need of an alliance with Russia was propagated by Jędrzej Giertych in his jo umalism in the "Horyzonty” monthly published in Paris. This ideologically committed opponent of communism and a staunch Cat…

Irradiation effects in CaF2probed by Raman scattering

2016

The formation conditions and dynamics of Ca colloids and point defects that appear in irradiated single crystals of CaF2 were investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The intensity changes in the Raman spectra because of the presence of different concentrations of point defects and Ca colloids that emerged in CaF2 after irradiation with 2.2 GeV Au ions were used to study their distribution and stability under illumination with three laser wavelengths (473, 532 and 633 nm) at different output powers (2 to 200 mW). A damage saturation at a fluence of 6 × 1011 ion cm−2 was observed. The dependence of the spectral changes on the ion fluence can be described by a core/halo damage cross-section model.…

C-switches: Increasing switch radix with current integration scale

2011

In large switch-based interconnection networks, increasing the switch radix results in a decrease in the total number of network components, and consequently the overall cost of the network can be significantly reduced. Moreover, high-radix switches are an attractive option to improve the network performance in terms of latency, since hop count is also reduced. However, there are some problems related to the integration scale to design such single-chip switches. In this paper we discuss key issues and evaluate an interesting alternative for building high-radix switches going beyond the integration scale bounds. The idea basically consists in combining several current smaller single-chip swi…

Dielectric breakdown of fast switching LCD shutters

2017

Fast liquid crystal optical shutters due to fast switching, vibrationless control and optical properties have found various applications: substitutes for mechanical shutters, 3D active shutter glasses, 3D volumetric displays and more. Switching speed depends not only on properties of liquid crystal, but also on applied electric field intensity. Applied field in the shutters can exceed >10 V/micron which may lead to dielectric breakdown. Therefore, a dielectric thin film is needed between transparent conductive electrodes in order to reduce breakdown probability. In this work we have compared electrical and optical properties of liquid crystal displays with dielectric thin films with thickne…

Experimental Investigation of Efficiency Map for an Inverter-Fed Surface-Mount Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

2019

Losses in inverter-fed permanent magnet motors are underestimated by using analytical or numerical approach since additional losses due to extra harmonics of the frequency converter are normally skipped. Further, losses in switches and passive components of the converter and the effect of switching frequencies cannot be numerically taken into consideration. Loss-minimizing control and proper efficiency analysis of inverter-fed permanent magnet motors cannot be achieved if an efficiency map is built based on a numerical investigation of the motors alone. This works first reviews losses in a surface-mount permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) and frequency converters. The efficiency map …

Mixed-Mode Operation of Hybrid Phase-Change Nanophotonic Circuits

2016

Phase change materials (PCMs) are highly attractive for nonvolatile electrical and all-optical memory applications because of unique features such as ultrafast and reversible phase transitions, long-term endurance, and high scalability to nanoscale dimensions. Understanding their transient characteristics upon phase transition in both the electrical and the optical domains is essential for using PCMs in future multifunctional optoelectronic circuits. Here, we use a PCM nanowire embedded into a nanophotonic circuit to study switching dynamics in mixed-mode operation. Evanescent coupling between light traveling along waveguides and a phase-change nanowire enables reversible phase transition b…

A Novel Fault-Tolerant Routing Algorithm for Mesh-of-Tree Based Network-on-Chips

2019

Use of bus architecture based communication with increasing processing elements in System-on-Chip (SoC) leads to severe degradation of performance and speed of the system. This bottleneck is overcome with the introduction of Network-on-Chips (NoCs). NoCs assist in communication between cores on a single chip using router based packet switching technique. Due to miniaturization, NoCs like every Integrated circuit is prone to different kinds of faults which can be transient, intermittent or permanent. A fault in any one component of such a crucial network can degrade performance leaving other components non-usable. This paper presents a novel Fault-Tolerant routing Algorithm for Mesh-of-Tree …
