Humans have shown a detection advantage of direct vs. averted gaze stimuli in visual search tasks. However, instead of attentional capture by direct gaze, the detection advantage in visual search may depend on attention-grabbing potential of the distractor stimuli to which the target needs to be compared. We investigated attentional capture by direct gaze using the change blindness paradigm, in which successful detection does not require comparison between the target and the distractor items. Musical training causes structural and functional changes in the brain due to its sensory-motor demands, but the modulatory effect of musical training on music feature processing in the brain in a continuous music listening paradigm, has not been investigated thus far. In this work, we investigate the differences between musicians and non-musicians in the encoding of musical features encompassing musical timbre, rhythm and tone. 18 musicians and 18 non-musicians were scanned using fMRI while listening to 3 varied stimuli. Dignity, Dependence, and Relational Autonomy for Older People Living in Nursing Homes

Dignity is a core concept in nursing care. In earlier theories on dignity, close links have been drawn between dignity and autonomy, and autonomy has been closely related to independence. These traditional understandings of dignity and autonomy may be challenged when an individual moves into a nursing home. Our findings show that negative views about dependence, institutional frames and structures in the nursing home, and the attitudes and actions of healthcare personnel may diminish independence and lead to a lack of autonomy. A Ni0-NCN pincer complex featuring a six-membered N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) central platform and amidine pendant arms was synthesized by deprotonation of its NiII precursor. It retained chloride in the square-planar coordination sphere of nickel and was expected to be highly susceptible to oxidative addition reactions. The Ni0 complex rapidly activated ammonia at room temperature, in a ligand-assisted process where the carbene carbon atom played the unprecedented role of proton acceptor.
