Psychosocial impact of career-ending injuries in professional ice hockey players : a qualitative study
2014
Injuries are a regular occurrence amongst athletes, and on occasion so severe as to impact the continuation an athlete’s career. Retirement from sport, in any circumstances can be a difficult transition for an athlete, particularly when participation in sport has formed a significant part of their identity, personality, and life as a whole. Research in this area is limited, as existing studies focus on injury and career termination separately. Thus, the purpose of this study was to document the lived experiences of professional ice hockey players who have encountered career-ending sports injuries. Three former professional Finnish ice hockey players participated in this study, all of who ha…
Ti år med EQ i skolen : en case-studie av forholdet mellom EQ og måloppnåelse i skolen
2016
Masteroppgave ledelse ORG917 - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Purpose and Research The goal of this thesis has been to find out to what extent the systematic introduction of "EQ in school" has succeeded, and in which areas. I have also focused on finding out through theory and examination of a selected unit whether EQ has a connection with achievement. For Norwegian schools to be able to adopt new methods that promote a positive in-school learning environment, it is important that those responsible can make informed decisions, and that information on new methods are based on research and results. According to Norwegian school researcher Thomas Nordahl, the learning environment is crucial for st…
Samhandling om tjenester til personer med utviklingshemming og samtidig psykiske lidelser/ plager: Hvilke erfaringer har deres foreldre?
2016
Masteroppgave psykisk helsearbeid - Universitetet i Agder 2016 National as well as international research shows that people with mental retardation are more prone to develop mental ailments and behavioral problems then the general population. Still, little subject material illuminates the collaboration of services provided to this group of people. The purpose of this study is to explore how the parents of people with mental retardation and simultaneous mental illnesses/ ailments perceive the collaboration of services provided to their offspring: What are their experiences on collaboration between the different service providers? How do they view collaboration between themselves/ their offsp…

Physiotherapists’ validating and invalidating communication before and after participating in brief cognitive functional therapy training : Test of c…
2021
Objective The aim of this study was to investigate physiotherapists’ validating and invalidating communication, before and after brief Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT) training that included a session on validation skills. Associations between validation/invalidation and the characteristics of the interviews and physiotherapists were also explored. Methods Eighteen physiotherapists treating patients with low back pain participated in the study. The study had a within-group design in which validation and invalidation for physiotherapists were rated before and after training using a reliable observational scale. We also collected data on interview length and physiotherapists’ and patients’ …
Finnish diabetes‐related quality of life questionnaire for children and adolescents: Reliability and validity
2020
Aim To study the psychometric properties, reliability, and validity of the FinDiab quality of life questionnaire (FDQL), a strength‐oriented quality of life (QOL) questionnaire for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Methods Participants were 215 youths with T1D (aged 10–17 years). They completed FDQL and comparison questionnaires (KINDL‐R and SDQ). Demographic and disease measures were collected from the participants’ medical records. The questionnaire’s psychometric properties were investigated. Construct validity was studied through principal component analysis using Promax rotation, reliability with alphas, and criterion and convergent validity with correlations between…
Meta-Study
2022
Meta-study is a method for analysing the content and the process of knowledge production in a body of qualitative research. Conducting a meta-study involves four steps: (1) meta-data-analysis which involves the study of empirical findings; (2) meta-method which examines the epistemological soundness and rigour of methods; (3) meta-theory which examines the structures, assumptions, and principles underpinning the primary research studies; and (4) meta-synthesis which brings the three steps together and considers the plausibility of existing accounts, what has been neglected, and what new avenues have been opened for advancing knowledge. Qualitative researchers in sport and exercise psycholog…
Validation of the swimming competence questionnaire for children
2020
Two studies were employed to test the reliability and validity of the Swimming Competence Questionnaire (SCQ) among primary school children. Study 1 was a cross-sectional survey in 4959 primary school children. Study 2 was a pre-post-test quasi-experiment among 1609 primary school children who underwent a 20-lesson learn-to-swim programme. In Study 1, exploratory structural equation modelling revealed excellent goodness-of-fit and scale reliability for a two-factor model comprising distance and skill factors, which supported the construct and convergent validity. SCQ scores were significantly and positively correlated with swimming outcomes (i.e., self-efficacy, intention, swimming frequenc…
