Non-speech voice for sonic interaction: a catalogue

2016

This paper surveys the uses of non-speech voice as an interaction modality within sonic applications. Three main contexts of use have been identified: sound retrieval, sound synthesis and control, and sound design. An overview of different choices and techniques regarding the style of interaction, the selection of vocal features and their mapping to sound features or controls is here displayed. A comprehensive collection of examples instantiates the use of non-speech voice in actual tools for sonic interaction. It is pointed out that while voice-based techniques are already being used proficiently in sound retrieval and sound synthesis, their use in sound design is still at an exploratory p…

Image synthesis using the Lau effect

1990

Abstract Based on the Lau effect at finite distances, we describe a lensless optical setup for synthesizing laterally periodic images; which are composed of several, incoherently superimposed, object substructures. Some experimental verifications are also reported.

A Parallel Approach to HRTF Approximation and Interpolation Based on a Parametric Filter Model

2017

[EN] Spatial audio-rendering techniques using head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) are currently used in many different contexts such as immersive teleconferencing systems, gaming, or 3-D audio reproduction. Since all these applications usually involve real-time constraints, efficient processing structures for HRTF modeling and interpolation are necessary for providing real-time binaural audio solutions. This letter presents a parametric parallel model that allows us to perform HRTF filtering and interpolation efficiently from an input HRTF dataset. The resulting model, which is an adaptation from a recently proposed modeling technique, not only reduces the size of HRTF datasets signific…

Comprehensive Study of Poly(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroaniline): From Electrosynthesis to Heterojunctions and Ammonia Sensing.

2018

In this work, we report for the first time on a comprehensive study of poly(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroaniline) (PTFANI). Contrary to the nonfluorinated polyaniline (PANI) or its analogues bearing one fluorine atom, PTFANI is a poorly conductive material. We present a comprehensive study of the electrosynthesized PTFANI from its monomer in an acidic aqueous medium. PTFANI was fully characterized by a potential-pH diagram, spectroelectrochemistry, and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) measurements, as well as by a morphological study. Combined with the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, it allowed us to understand the redox properties of this polymer compared to those …

Protonic ceramic fuel cell : elaboration and characterization. Investigation of the BaZr0.8Y0.2O3-d electrolyte by electrochemical impedance spectros…

2021

One of the current global challenges is to find novel, clean and efficient techniques for the energy production. The use of electrochemical cells and hydrogen is one of the solutions. These cells convert the excess energy produced by conventional systems into hydrogen by steam electrolysis. The hydrogen can be stored and transformed into electricity when needed in the fuel cell mode. Among the different electrochemical cells, protonic ceramic electrochemical cells have attracted much attention due to their high efficiency at intermediate temperature (400 – 600 °C). In addition, these systems offer the advantage of not diluting the fuel in electrolysis mode. This thesis work focuses on the e…

The Shaping of Public Economic Discourse in Postwar America: The 1947 Meat Shortage and Franco Modigliani’s Meat Plan

2015

Abstract This paper discusses the American debate over price controls and economic stabilization after World War II, when the transition from a war economy to a peace economy was characterized by bottlenecks in the productive system and shortages of food and other basic consumer goods, directly affecting the living standard of the population, the public opinion, and political discourse. Specifically, we will focus on the economist Franco Modigliani and his proposal for a “Plan to meet the problem of rising meat and other food prices without bureaucratic controls.” The plan prepared by Modigliani in October 1947 was based on a system of taxes and subsidies to foster a proper distribution of …

Nanostructured Ni Based Anode and Cathode for Alkaline Water Electrolyzers

2019

Owing to the progressive abandoning of the fossil fuels and the increase of atmospheric CO2 concentration, the use of renewable energies is strongly encouraged. The hydrogen economy provides a very interesting scenario. In fact, hydrogen is a valuable energy carrier and can act as a storage medium as well to balance the discontinuity of the renewable sources. In order to exploit the potential of hydrogen it must be made available in adequate quantities and at an affordable price. Both goals can be potentially achieved through the electrochemical water splitting, which is an environmentally friendly process as well as the electrons and water are the only reagents. However, these devices stil…

Structural, magnetic and electrical properties of one-dimensional tetraamidatodiruthenium compounds

2013

The first bromo and iodo tetraamidatodiruthenium compounds of the type [Ru2X(μ-NHOCC6H4-R)4]n [X = Br, R = o-Me (1), m-Me (2), p-Me (3); X = I, R = o-Me (4), m-Me (5), p-Me (6)] have been prepared using solvothermal or microwave activation procedures. In these reactions ethanol or methanol as solvents have been used to make the synthesis procedures more environment-friendly. Solvothermal synthesis has allowed us to isolate single crystals of these extremely insoluble compounds and the crystal structures of all of them have been determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The change of the bridging halide ligand permits us to discuss the properties of these complexes on the basis of t…

Template electrosynthesis of aligned Cu2O nanowires

2008

Abstract Large arrays of aligned copper oxide nanowires were produced by electrodeposition, using anodic alumina membranes as template. We have studied the effect of two fundamental parameters involved in fabrication process: potential perturbation and bath composition. Performing electrodeposition from a copper acetate/sodium acetate bath (pH 6.5), we found that chemical composition of nanowires varied in dependence on the shape of the applied potential perturbation: pure copper oxide nanowires were produced by pulsed potential, whilst continuous electrodeposition resulted in a co-deposition of Cu and Cu 2 O. In a copper lactate bath, buffered at pH 10, the shape of perturbation did not in…
