Wyrażanie wiary poprzez sztukę (malarstwo, rzeźbę i inne) dla chrześcijan nie jest rzeczą dowolną, lecz obowiązkową, bo wyraża wiarę we wcielenie Boga w Jezusie Chrystusie. Do takiego stwierdzenia Kościół dochodził przez kilka stuleci. Ostatecznie sformułował swe stanowisko na soborach, w nauczaniu papieży i teologów także pod wpływem politycznych dysput. Jednak nauczanie Kościoła o znaczeniu i funkcji sakralnej sztuki liturgicznej do dzisiaj nie doczekało się swojej recepcji. Il saggio esamina il monumento funebre del prelato milanese Guidotto d’Abbiate che guidò l’arcidiocesi di Messina dal 1304 sino al 1333. L’Arcivescovo, che commissionò l’opera nel 1326 allo scultore senese Goro di Gregorio, si dedicò al progetto “di abbellimento” della Cattedrale della Città dello Stretto dove è custodito il monumento. A quest’ultimo manufatto potrebbe appartenere la Madonna con il Bambino, detta degli Storpi, ora custodita nel Museo Regionale Interdisciplinare di Messina. Il saggio, infine, contestualizza la committenza indagando anche le sculture del XIV e degli inizi del XV custodite in Sicilia e realizzate da artisti isolani e in modo particolare toscani. If the Catholic Church experiences difficulties in today’s world of ‘hyper-communication’ and 24/7 media pressure, esoteric religious language or generalised misuse of the media may not be the only factors to blame. This paper is based on the hypothesis that the reasons run more deeply into the communications ethos of the Catholic Church itself. What distinguishes the biblical books of Sacred Scripture from other compositions and works of literature is undoubtedly its supernatural character described in theology as inspiration. In this dissertation, I study the observance of holy days among the peasantry in the early modern province of Savo, located on the eastern periphery of the Swedish kingdom (today Eastern Finland). I examine the practices, norms and meanings related to the observance of holy days both within and outside the Church, and analyse the changes and continuities in the post-reformation period. As the main sources of the study, I use district court records and visitation records mainly from the period 1639–1712. Joannes Molanus, teolog, rektor Uniwersytetu w Louvain napisał obszerny traktat, który miał być pomocą dla biskupów i księży, w szczegółowym zastosowaniu ogólnego dekretu soborowego o obrazach.
