ChemInform Abstract: A Highly Active System for the Metal-Free Aerobic Photocyanation of Tertiary Amines with Visible Light: Application to the Synth…

2016

A highly efficient metal-free catalytic system for the aerobic photocyanation of tertiary amines with visible light is reported. The use of air as terminal oxidant offers an improved safety profile compared with pure oxygen, the used compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light sources are highly economical, and no halogenated solvents are required. This system not only proves to be effective for a wide variety of trialkylamines, pharmaceuticals, and alkaloids but remarkably also allows the lowest catalyst loading (0.00001 mol% or 0.1 ppm) ever reported for an organic dye. Bruylants reactions and C-alkylation/decyanations were performed on the obtained α-aminonitriles to demonstrate the postfunctio…

Interactive Multiobjective Optimization in Lot Sizing with Safety Stock and Safety Lead Time

2021

In this paper, we integrate a lot sizing problem with the problem of determining optimal values of safety stock and safety lead time. We propose a probability of product availability formula to assess the quality of safety lead time and a multiobjective optimization model as an integrated lot sizing problem. In the proposed model, we optimize six objectives simultaneously: minimizing purchasing cost, ordering cost, holding cost and, at the same time, maximizing cycle service level, probability of product availability and inventory turnover. To present the applicability of the proposed model, we consider a real case study with data from a manufacturing company and apply the interactive NAUTI…

Design of a safety training package for migrant workers in the construction industry

2021

Abstract The construction sector is known as a high-risk sector with many safety challenges. It is also characterised by a large number of migrant workers and these workers report higher accident rates than native workers. This paper presents the design of the CSTP (Construction Safety Training Programme). The CSTP is a theory-based training program aimed at improving safety behaviours in construction sites acknowledging the particular challenges migrant workers face. Based on second and third generational models of training, we developed a training program that addresses the challenges faced by migrant workers in the construction industry, namely language and cultural barriers, times press…

Human Reliability Analysis to support operational planning of an experimental facility

2015

This paper reports the results obtained by using different techniques of Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) to identify potential operator errors at the SPES (Selective Production of Exotic Species) facility, a second generation Isotope Separation On Line (ISOL) plant for advanced nuclear physic applications. The paper presents scoping-level HRA applications, with the main goal to evaluate the applicability of HRA techniques for the specific domain. In particular, two aspects challenge a standard HRA. First, the facility is under construction so that a number of aspects related to its operation (e.g. procedures and operator interfaces) are still under definition. Second, the context of operat…

The FTOPSIS method to support FMECA analyses

2016

This paper proposes an approach based on multi-criteria decisional methods to manage the results derived from reliability analyses. In detail, this paper proposes ranking the failure modes of a system when analyzed with failure modes, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) using the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solutions (TOPSIS). To better manage the uncertainty of evaluations made under the differing criteria, the TOPSIS method is applied in its fuzzy version (FTOPSIS). When the method is applied to a case study, the results highlight the main possible critical faults and supply fundamental information to take into account during the scheduling of maintenance ac…

How do individuals emotionally cope with the imminent real-world salience of mortality? DeWall and Baumeister as well as Kashdan and colleagues previously provided support that an increased use of positive emotion words serves as a way to protect and defend against mortality salience of one’s own contemplated death. Although these studies provide important insights into the psychological dynamics of mortality salience, it remains an open question how individuals cope with the immense threat of mortality prior to their imminent actual death. In the present research, we therefore analyzed positivity in the final words spoken immediately before execution by 407 death row inmates in Texas. By u…

Determination of Third-Generation Synthetic Cannabinoids in Oral Fluids.

2020

Abstract A procedure has been developed for the determination of third-generation synthetic cannabinoids in oral fluid samples by using a semi-automated microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) procedure and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) determination. Five synthetic cannabinoids were employed as model compounds 5F-ADB, MMB-CHMICA, THJ-2201, CUMYL-4CN-BINACA and MDMB-CHMCZCA. The most adequate operative conditions for MEPS were evaluated giving quantitative recoveries, from 89 to 124%, in synthetic and field saliva samples spiked with 125 and 250 μg/L of the studied cannabinoids, with the exception of MDMB-CHMCZCA in field saliva samples that provided slightly lower recoverie…

Recovery Estimation of Dried Foodborne Pathogens Is Directly Related to Rehydration Kinetics.

2016

International audience; Drying is a common process which is used to preserve food products and technological microorganisms, but which is deleterious for the cells. The aim of this study is to differentiate the effects of drying alone from the effects of the successive and necessary rehydration. Rehydration of dried bacteria is a critical step already studied in starter culture but not for different kinetics and not for pathogens. In the present study, the influence of rehydration kinetics was investigated for three foodborne pathogens involved in neonatal diseases caused by the consumption of rehydrated milk powder: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium, Salmonella enteri…
