La riserva naturale orientata "Torre Salsa" istituita nel 2000 con Decreto della Regione siciliana del 23 giugno 2000 e gestita dal WWF Italia, è un’ area naturale protetta della Sicilia. La riserva, sita nel Comune di Siculiana (AG), si estende per oltre 750 ettari e presenta un litorale di circa 6 chilometri dove si alternano falesie, dune e spiagge. The studies of Sicilian ancient landscapes, the histories of sites, towns and marks of antiquity, have necessarily to trace back to Tommaso Fazello’s book. Before him, nobody else had offered such a detailed depiction of ancient Sicily, and the methodology of his research is still very authentic. In addition to describing the ruins of ancient cities and identifying them (Selinunte is for instance a very special case), one could affirm that Fazello’s interest was also in the natural characterization and transformation of both rural and urban landscapes. Kali dodecanesicum (Chenopodiaceae, Salsoloideae) a new species from Greece

Kali dodecanesicum, a new species from some islands (i.e. Rhodes, Kos and Nisyros) of the Dodecanese in the south-eastern Aegean (Greece), is described and illustrated. According to recent literature, Kali is treated as a distinct genus from the polyphyletic Salsola s.l., which includes several annual species. The new species is morphologically well separated from the other Kali taxa mainly for the shape of the fruiting perianth, showing closer relationships with Kali ponticum. Its ecological requirements, distribution, and conservation status are also examined, together with an analytic key of the Kali species occurring in the Mediterranean area.

AbstractC2 photosynthesis is characterized by recapturing photorespiratory CO2 by RuBisCO in Kranz-like cells and is therefore physiologically intermediate between C3 and C4 photosynthesis. C2 can be interpreted as an evolutionary precursor of C4 and/or as the result of hybridization between a C3 and C4 lineage.We compared the expression of photosynthetic traits among populations of the Salsola divaricata agg. (C2) from humid subtropical to arid habitats on the coasts of the Canary Islands and Morocco and subjected them to salt and drought treatments. Nomenclatural and taxonomical considerations on Kali , a controversial genus recently segregated from the polyphyletic Salsola s. lat. ( Chenopodiaceae ), are provided. The Kali group includes annual plants with leaves ending in a spine and lacking hypodermis, having also a cortex alternate to longitudinal chlorenchymatous striae. The species belonging to this genus mainly have a paleotemperate distribution (Europe, Asia and North Africa), occurring as aliens in North America, Australia and South Africa. A partir de la consulta de las principales editoriales que se usan en España (Anaya, Bromera, Santillana, SM y Vicens Vives), se han analizado los manuales correspondientes al 3er ciclo (5º y 6º).
