Technology Affordance and Constraint Perspectives on Social Media Use in eParticipation : A Case Study in Indonesia
2020
Paper I-V are not available as a part of the dissertation due to the copyright. This doctoral thesis explains the role of social media within eParticipation from the perspective of politicians in the Indonesian context using the Technology Affordance and Constraints Theory (TACT) as a lens. Previous research findings into citizens’ perceptions of social media in eParticipation have been ambivalent; namely, social media can both encourage and discourage the democratic process depending on where, when, and how it is used. Furthermore, there is little understanding of the role of social media in influencing decision-making in the democratic process from the politicians’ perspective. Thus, my r…
Viral Viruses and Modified Mobility: Cyberspace Disease Salience Predicts Human Movement Patterns
2023
Humans have a motivational system that influences cognition and behavior to minimize the risk of contact with pathogens whenever cues to disease emerge. The current research examines the relationship between cyberspace disease salience and mobility behavior at the macro and micro levels. Across three studies, we predict and find that people adjust their mobility behavior to minimize the risk of close physical contact with strangers when cyberspace disease salience is high (vs. low). Study 1 examines web searches for terms related to the pandemic to determine relatively high and low disease salience periods in cyberspace. In Study 2, we analyze hourly sales data from five grocery stores and …

Hva med oss andre som bor her? Profesjonsetiske utfordringer i møte med fosterforeldres egne barn
2019
My thesis is both an empirical and ethical study, which means that I do an ethical analysis of the empirical material. The empirical part of the study is a qualitative analysis of how challenges in foster care placement may impact on foster carers’ own children. This is followed by an ethical analysis of professional ethical challenges raised by the circumstances of foster carers’ children. To identify such challenges, knowledge about the foster sibling relationship, first and foremost through the life experiences of children of foster parents, is crucial. In Norway, limited research attention is given to how the foster parents’ own children make meaning of their role and participation in f…
Mind the gap! rom traditional and instrumental approaches of source evaluation towards source consciousness
2022
This article gives a critical review and investigation of traditional generic ways of teaching source evaluation and source criticism. Furthermore, it aims to investigate a new approach to address this area of information literacy instruction for teaching librarians. While traditional approaches focus on evaluating the source at hand, this study offers a perspective to supplement this with a more reflective perspective. The emphasises in this article is the need to focus on source consciousness though the newly developed model MIND (motivation – intention – need – debate). The goal is to supplement the traditional approaches of source evaluation where only the source is being assessed and …
Business Intelligence and Analytics in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
2020
This thesis presents a study of Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A) adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Although the importance of BI&A is widely accepted, empirical research shows SMEs still lag in BI&A proliferation. Thus, it is crucial to understand the phenomenon of BI&A adoption in SMEs. This thesis will investigate and explore BI&A adoption in SMEs, addressing the main research question: How can we understand the phenomenon of BI&A adoption in SMEs? The adoption term in this thesis refers to all the IS adoption stages, including investment, implementation, utilization, and value creation. This research uses a combination of a literature review, a qualitive ex…
Den tredje rollen : Fra distriktshøgskole til universitet
2019
This chapter discusses the evolution of third-mission collaboration by tracking the historical unfolding of third-mission engagement in the Norwegian higher education sector and against the backdrop of changes in the institutional profiles and legal statuses of domestic providers. We categorise developments into four distinct phases and develop a novel typology on the evolution of third-mission roles and the tensions that emerge from this, to be empirically tested and applied in other geographical contexts. The research problem being addressed is: What characterises third-mission engagement in the transition from regional college to a full-fledged university? The findings are of relevance t…

Å le eller ikke le : Holdninger til religionshumor i den norske befolkning
2019
Do Norwegians think it is okay to laugh at humour that is related to religion? This is the question I explore, based on a representative survey conducted in Norway. In recent years the relationship between religion and humour has been a topic of public discourse, sparked initially in 2005/2006 when the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten and the Norwegian weekly Magazinet published cartoons depicting the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The publications led to heated debate, riots and demonstrations in different parts of the world. The 2015 attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo brought the topic back into the public eye. The controversy over boundaries for joking about religion is par…
