Pulsed Direct liquid Injection ALD of TiO2 Films Using Titanium Tetraisopropoxide Precursor

2013

Abstract TiO 2 thin films are grown by pulsed direct liquid injection atomic layer deposition with rapid thermal heating using titanium tetraisopropoxide and water vapor as precursors. The ALD growth rate is constant in the saturation zone range 35-47 ms at the temperature deposition of 280 °C. The TiO 2 growth rate of 0.018 nm/cycle was achieved in a self-limited ALD mode. SEM and AFM analysis showed the as-deposited films have a smooth surface with a low roughness. XPS analysis exhibited the stoichiometry of TiO 2 in the homogenous depth composition.

Dynamic control of the operation regimes of a mode-locked fiber laser based on intracavity polarizing fibers: experimental and theoretical validation.

2012

[EN] An intracavity polarizing fiber is proposed to control the emission regime of a passively mode-locked fiber laser. Stable operation in self-starting high and low dispersion soliton mode-locking and 100 GHz multiwavelength regimes is demonstrated through numerical simulations and experimental validation. Mode-locking stability is ensured by a saturable absorber in the ring cavity. The effective selection of operation regime is dynamically carried out by controlling the intracavity polarization state.

On the hydro-mechanical behaviour of a lime-treated embankment during wetting and drying cycles

2018

Abstract The paper presents some experimental results obtained on samples extracted from a full-scale embankment obtained by compacting a lime-treated clayey soil. A comprehensive test programme was carried out in order to highlight the improvement of mechanical behaviour induced by lime treatment as well as to assess the durability of the improved material, which may be affected by severe seasonal wetting and drying cycles. Direct shear tests, triaxial compression tests, swelling potential measurement and oedometric tests were performed on samples cured in controlled environmental conditions for at least 18 months. Wetting and drying cycles were applied in a very wide range of suction valu…

Kinetics and isotherm of fibronectin adsorption to three-dimensional porous chitosan scaffolds explored by125I-radiolabelling

2013

In this study, 125I-radiolabelling was explored to follow the kinetics and isotherm of fibronectin (FN) adsorption to porous polymeric scaffolds, as well as to assess the elution and exchangeability of pre-adsorbed FN following incubation in serum-containing culture medium. Chitosan (CH) porous scaffolds with two different degrees of acetylation (DA 4% and 15%) were incubated in FN solutions with concentrations ranging from 5 to 50 µg/mL. The kinetic and isotherm of FN adsorption to CH were successfully followed using 125I-FN as a tracer molecule. While on DA 4% the levels of adsorbed FN increased linearly with FN solution concentration, on DA 15% a saturation plateau was attained, and FN a…

Design of Gelatin Pouches for the Preservation of Flaxseed Oil during Storage

2020

Flaxseed oil (FO) is composed mainly of polyunsaturated fatty acids that are very sensitive to oxidation induced by oxygen, temperature, and light. To overcome this problem, gelatin-based films containing glucose are crosslinked via the Maillard reaction (MR) at 120 &deg

Nonmonotone Saturation Profiles for Hydrostatic Equilibrium in Homogeneous Porous Media

2012

Nonmonotonic saturation profiles (saturation overshoot) occur as travelling waves in gravity driven fingering. They seem important for preferential flow mechanisms and have found much attention recently. Here, we predict them even for hydrostatic equilibrium when all velocities vanish. We suggest that hysteresis suffices to explain the effect. Recently, the observation of nonmonotonicity of traveling wave solutions for saturation profiles during constant-flux infiltration experiments has highlighted the shortcomings of the traditional, seventy year old mathematical model for immiscible displacement in porous media. Several recent modifications have been proposed to explain these observation…

Lipid Metabolism during the Sexual Maturation of the Mealworm (Tenebrio molitor): Effect of Ingested Diflubenzuron

1997

Abstract Diflubenzuron (DFB), a benzoylphenylurea derivative, when fed to adult females of Tenebrio molitor during sexual maturation (i.e., from adult ?? to day 9), was found to accumulate in the fat body and to quantitatively and qualitatively affect lipid synthesis. DFB treatment decreased the overall lipid level in the fat body and caused perturbations in both the rate of incorporation and distribution of radiolabeled oleic acid in the different classes of lipids. Compared to untreated controls, a significant increase in the level of saturated fatty acids and a significant decrease in the level of unsaturated fatty acids were observed in the fat body. In the ovaries, the fatty acid compo…

Internal-variable constitutive model for rate-independent plasticity with hardening saturation surface

1998

An elastic-plastic material model with internal variables and thermodynamic potential, not admitting hardening states out of a saturation surface, is presented. The existence of such a saturation surface in the internal variables space — a consequence of the boundedness of the energy that can be stored in the material's internal micro-structure — encompasses, in case of general kinematic/isotropic hardening, a one-parameter family of envelope surfaces in the stress space, which in turn is enveloped by a limit surface. In contrast to a multi-surface model, noad hoc rules are required to avoid the intersection between the yield and bounding/envelope surface. The flow laws of the proposed mode…

Long‐Term Durum Wheat‐Based Cropping Systems Result in the Rapid Saturation of Soil Carbon in the Mediterranean Semi‐arid Environment

2016

Climate, soil physical–chemical characteristics, land management, and carbon (C) input from crop residues greatly affect soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration. According to the concept of SOC saturation, the ability of SOC to increase with C input decreases as SOC increases and approaches a SOC saturation level. In a 12-year experiment, six semi-arid cropping systems characterized by different rates of C input to soil were compared for ability to sequester SOC, SOC saturation level, and the time necessary to reach the SOC saturation level. SOC stocks, soil aggregate sizes, and C inputs were measured in durum wheat monocropping with (Ws) and without (W) return of aboveground residue to the…

Relationship between ethanol tolerance, lipid composition and plasma membrane fluidity inSaccharomyces cerevisiaeandKloeckera apiculata

1994

The lipid composition of a strain of each of two yeasts, Saccharomyces csrevisiae and Kloeckera apiculata, with different ethanol tolerances, was determined for cells grown with or without added ethanol. An increase in the proportion of ergosterol, unsaturated fatty acid levels and the maintenance of phospholipid biosynthesis seemed to be responsible for ethanol tolerance. The association of ethanol tolerance of yeast cells with plasma membrane fluidity, measured by fluorescence anisotropy, is discussed. We propose that an increase in plasma membrane fluidity may be correlated with a decrease in the sterol: phospholipid and sterol: protein ratios and an increase in unsaturation index.
