Città sature

2012

What are the maximum quantities that can be allowed in a quality project? Urban plans are measured in terms of density, and saturation is density taken to its extreme—simultaneously a technical and a political provocation. Questioning this concept is useful in order first to learn to read and then to interpret full and empty spaces in towns and landscapes. Whereas the landscape restoration on the coasts of Brittany appears as a more or less peaceful operation, Western cities busy with politics of saturation— from London to Florence—encounter difficulties of various nature thereby exposing some paradoxes in sustainability.

Inhibition of the pro-inflammatory mediators' production and anti-inflammatory effect of the iridoid scrovalentinoside.

2007

We have studied scrovalentinoside, an iridoid with anti-inflammatory properties isolated from Scrophularia auriculata ssp. pseudoauriculata, as an anti-inflammatory agent in different experimental models of delayed-type hypersensitivity. We found that scrovalentinoside reduced the edema induced by oxazolone at 0.5 mg/ear and sheep red blood cells at 10 mg/kg. The observed effect occurred during the last phase or inflammatory response; during the earlier phase or induction of the delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction, no significant activity was noted. Thus, scrovalentinoside reduced both the edema and cell infiltration in vivo and reduced lymphocyte proliferation in vitro, affecting the cy…

Sharp estimates and saturation phenomena for a nonlocal eigenvalue problem

2011

Abstract We determine the shape which minimizes, among domains with given measure, the first eigenvalue of a nonlocal operator consisting of a perturbation of the standard Dirichlet Laplacian by an integral of the unknown function. We show that this problem displays a saturation behaviour in that the corresponding value of the minimal eigenvalue increases with the weight affecting the average up to a (finite) critical value of this weight, and then remains constant. This critical point corresponds to a transition between optimal shapes, from one ball as in the Faber–Krahn inequality to two equal balls.

Nonfragile Gain-Scheduled Control for Discrete-Time Stochastic Systems with Randomly Occurring Sensor Saturations

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/629621 Open Access This paper is devoted to tackling the control problem for a class of discrete-time stochastic systems with randomly occurring sensor saturations. The considered sensor saturation phenomenon is assumed to occur in a random way based on the time-varying Bernoulli distribution with measurable probability in real time. The aim of the paper is to design a nonfragile gain-scheduled controller with probability-dependent gains which can be achieved by solving a convex optimization problem via semidefinite programming method. Dietary prevention of visual function and cognitive decline by omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in Senescence Accelerated Mouse P8 (SAM P8)

2008

International audience; Purpose: : Neuronal tissues such as the brain and the retina contain elevated amounts of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and particularly docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA concentrations are known to decrease in the aging brain and are associated with cognitive decline. The senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAM P8) is a mouse model for aging that exhibits deficits in cognitive performances as well as alterations of retinal functionality (ARVO 2004 E-abstract 797). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a dietary supplementation with DHA on mood, cognition and visual functionality of SAM P8 during aging. Methods: : SAM P8 mice we…

Starppriekšmetu saiknes īstenošana kulturoloģijas stundās tematā “Sengrieķu kultūra” vidusskolā

2020

Diplomdarba nosaukums ir “Starppriekšmetu saiknes īstenošana kulturoloģijas stundās tematā “Sengrieķu kultūra” vidusskolā”. Mērķis ir izpētīt starppriekšmetu saiknes iespējas pedagoģiskajā procesā kulturoloģijā vidusskolā. Diplomdarbā izstrādātas shēmas un kritēriji starppriekšmetu saiknes izvērtēšanai. Pētījuma gaitā izstrādāti 10 stundu plāni tematam “Sengrieķu kultūra”, kurus iespējams pielietot dažādās klašu grupās. Pētījumā analizēti 3 veidu dati: skolēnu pašvērtējuma anketas, skolēnu pārbaudes darbu vērtējumi un skolotāja pašvērtējums pēc konkrētiem kritērijiem. Stundu plāni aprobēti vienā vidusskolas klasē, tad analizēti ieguvumi un trūkumi, ja tematu apgūst ar starppriekšmetu saikne…

Chemical composition of volatile and fixed oils from of Salvia argentea L. (Lamiaceae) growing wild in Sicily.

2015

The chemical compositions of the essential oil and of the non-polar extracts (petroleum ether, dichloromethane) of the aerial parts (flowers, leaves and stems) of Salvia argentea L. were determined by GC-FID and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis. 14-Hydroxy-α-humulene (40.1%) was recognised as the main constituents of the essential oil of S. argentea, together with 1,3,8-p-menthatriene (12.1%), globulol (7.4%) and β-sesquiphellandrene (5.8%). Tritriacontane (9.9% and 14.1%), heptacosane (8.4% and 10.5%), hentriacontane (8.3% and 10.9%), tetradecanal (8.4% and 10.2%) and methyldotriacontane (7.9% and 7.6%) were recognised as the main constituents of the extracts in petroleum …

Simplified estimation of field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity from ponded infiltration data

2013

Simple and reasonably rapid experiments are desirable to conduct a spatially distributed determination of field-saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs, that is a highly variable soil property. Bagarello et al. (2012) recently developed a simplified approach to estimate Kfs that is based on a ponded field infiltration experiment. A cylinder is inserted to a short depth into the soil, so to produce a minimal disturbance of the porous medium, and the infiltration time of a few small volumes of water repeatedly applied at the surface of the confined soil is measured. Calculating Kfs needs to determine the slope of the linearized cumulative infiltration vs. time relationship, the ring radius…

Meat production from dairy breed lambs due to slaughter age and feeding plan based on wheat bran

2019

This experiment aimed to investigate the possibility to increase the carcass weight of dairy breed lambs and produce moderate-fat meat by applying inexpensive feeding strategies based on restriction and through the use of a fibrous byproduct such as the durum wheat bran (DWB). Sixty-five 45-day-old lambs of the Valle del Belice breed, divided into 6 groups, were fed alfalfa hay supplemented with concentrate feeds including DWB at 0% or 20% (DWB0, DWB20), supplied ad libitum (L) or restricted at 75% (R), and slaughtered at 90 or 120 days of age. The groups were as follows: DWB0-90L (n = 14), DWB20-90L (n = 14), DWB0-120R (n = 10), DWB20-120R (n = 9), DWB0-120L (n = 9), DWB20-120L (n = 9). Th…
