Lévy-type diffusion on one-dimensional directed Cantor graphs.
2009
L\'evy-type walks with correlated jumps, induced by the topology of the medium, are studied on a class of one-dimensional deterministic graphs built from generalized Cantor and Smith-Volterra-Cantor sets. The particle performs a standard random walk on the sets but is also allowed to move ballistically throughout the empty regions. Using scaling relations and the mapping onto the electric network problem, we obtain the exact values of the scaling exponents for the asymptotic return probability, the resistivity and the mean square displacement as a function of the topological parameters of the sets. Interestingly, the systems undergoes a transition from superdiffusive to diffusive behavior a…
Effects of wave function correlations on scaling violation in quasi-free electron scattering
1981
Abstract The scaling law in quasi-free electron scattering is broken due to the existence of exchange forces, leading to a finite mean value of the scaling variable y . This effect is considerably increased by wave function correlations, in particular by tensor correlations, similar to the case of the photonuclear enhancement factor κ.
Accurate representation of the distributions of the 3D Poisson-Voronoi typical cell geometrical features
2019
Understanding the intricate and complex materials microstructure and how it is related to materials properties is an important problem in the Materials Science field. For a full comprehension of this relation, it is fundamental to be able to describe the main characteristics of the 3-dimensional microstructure. The most basic model used for approximating steel microstructure is the Poisson-Voronoi diagram. Poisson-Voronoi diagrams have interesting mathematical properties, and they are used as a good model for single-phase materials. In this paper we exploit the scaling property of the underlying Poisson process to derive the distribution of the main geometrical features of the grains for ev…
A pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of adjunctive use of two antimicrobial topical gels in chronic gingivitis
2021
Background Gingivitis is one of the most prevalent oral disease in humans. The most important etiological factor of gingivitis is dental plaque. Plaque control procedures comprises of several mechanical and chemical methods. Many studies have advocated that chemical plaque control methods can be used successfully as an adjunct to mechanical plaque control procedures. Thus, the aim of this pilot study is to evaluate the effectiveness of two topical antimicrobial gels as an adjunct to mechanical plaque control over a period of 2 weeks in treatment of chronic gingivitis patients. Material and methods This is a single blind, two arm parallel design pilot clinical study including 60 systemically…
Structure function as a tool in AE and Dst time series analysis
1995
A new method to analyse the structure function (SF) has been constructed and used in the analysis of the AE time series for the years 1978-85 and Dst time series for 1957-84. It is shown that this SF analysis makes a clear distinction between affine and periodicity dominated time series, and it displays the essential periodicities of the series in a range relevant to its characteristic time scale. The AE time series is found to be affine such that the scaling exponent changes at a time scale of 113 (±9) minutes. On the other hand, in the SF function analysis, the Dst data are dominated by the 24-hour and 27-day periods. The 27-day period is modulated by the annual variation.
Phase behaviour of heteronuclear dimers in three-dimensional systems—a Monte Carlo study
2008
Monte Carlo simulation in the grand canonical ensemble, the histogram reweighting technique and finite size scaling are used to study the phase behaviour of dimers in three-dimensional systems. A single molecule is composed of two segments A and B, and the bond between them cannot be broken. The phase diagrams have been estimated for a set of model systems. Different structures formed by heteronuclear dimers have been found. The results show a great variety of vapour–liquid coexistence behaviour depending on the strength of the interactions between segments.
Fractal geometry of higher derivative gravity
2019
We determine the scaling properties of geometric operators such as lengths, areas, and volumes in models of higher derivative quantum gravity by renormalizing appropriate composite operators. We use these results to deduce the fractal dimensions of such hypersurfaces embedded in a quantum spacetime at very small distances.
K− over K+ multiplicity ratio for kaons produced in DIS with a large fraction of the virtual-photon energy
2018
The K$^{-}$ over K$^{+}$ multiplicity ratio is measured in deep-inelastic scattering, for the first time for kaons carrying a large fraction $z$ of the virtual-photon energy. The data were obtained by the COMPASS collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam and an isoscalar $^6$LiD target. The regime of deep-inelastic scattering is ensured by requiring $Q^2>1$ (GeV/$c)^2$ for the photon virtuality and $W>5$ GeV/$c^2$ for the invariant mass of the produced hadronic system. Kaons are identified in the momentum range from 12 GeV/$c$ to 40 GeV/$c$, thereby restricting the range in Bjorken-$x$ to $0.010.75$. For very large values of $z$, $i.e.$ $z>0.8$, we observe the kaon multiplicity ratio to fall …

Enhancing the SCIROCCO tool using quantitative and qualitative methods
2018
Background: The SCIROCCO tool, developed as part of the SCIROCCO project, incorporates the Maturity Model for the adoption of Integrated Care developed by the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (B3 Action Group on Integrated Care). The online self-assessment tool can be used to facilitate scaling-up of integrated care across different health and care sectors, at different levels in health or care systems, and in a range of communities. Currently, more than 30 European regions are involved in testing the SCIROCCO tool. Since the project launch in April 2016, the tool underwent two iterations. Each of the iterations of the tool was followed by a round of refinement t…
