Periodontal treatment with an Er:YAG laser compared to ultrasonic instrumentation: a pilot study.

Aminoacid zwitterions in solution : Geometric, energetic, and vibrational analysis using density functional theory-continuum model calculations

Glycine and alanine aminoacids chemistry in solution is explored using a hybrid three parameters density functional (B3PW91) together with a continuum model. Geometries, energies, and vibrational spectra of glycine and alanine zwitterions are studied at the B3PW91/6-31+G∗∗ level and the results compared with those obtained at the HF and MP2/6-31+G∗∗ levels. Solvents effects are incorporated by means of an ellipsoidal cavity model with a multipolar expansion (up to sixth order) of the solute’s electrostatic potential. Finite-size scaling of charge carrier mobility in disordered organic semiconductors

Simulations of charge transport in amorphous semiconductors are often performed in microscopically sized systems. As a result, charge carrier mobilities become system-size dependent. We propose a simple method for extrapolating a macroscopic, nondispersive mobility from the system-size dependence of a microscopic one. The method is validated against a temperature-based extrapolation [A. Lukyanov and D. Andrienko, Phys. Rev. B 82, 193202 (2010)]. In addition, we provide an analytic estimate of system sizes required to perform nondispersive charge transport simulations in systems with finite charge carrier density, derived from a truncated Gaussian distribution. Numerical Study of Blow-Up Mechanisms for Davey-Stewartson II Systems

We present a detailed numerical study of various blow-up issues in the context of the focusing Davey-Stewartson II equation. To this end we study Gaussian initial data and perturbations of the lump and the explicit blow-up solution due to Ozawa. Based on the numerical results it is conjectured that the blow-up in all cases is self similar, and that the time dependent scaling is as in the Ozawa solution and not as in the stable blow-up of standard $L^{2}$ critical nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations. The blow-up profile is given by a dynamically rescaled lump.

Testing mode-coupling theory for a supercooled binary Lennard-Jones mixture

Abstract We have performed a molecular dynamics computer simulation study to investigate the dynamical behavior of a supercooled simple liquid for comparison with the predictions of mode-coupling theory (MCT). By scaling the intermediate scattering function by the α-relaxation time r we find that the correlators fall onto a master curve extending over several decades in time. Thus we find that the time temperature superposition principle holds. In the late β-relaxation regime this master curve can be fitted very well by a master curve predicted by the idealized version MCT. AbstractSepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a frequent complication in patients with severe systemic infection resulting in acute brain dysfunction and incapacitating long-term sequelae. SAE includes delirium, premature death, post-traumatic stress disorder, and major long-term cognitive impairment. The underlying pathophysiology of SAE is largely unresolved and specific treatment options are missing. We induced the peritoneal contamination and infection (PCI) sepsis model in 769 mice and compared these with 259 control mice.
