How representative are referendums? Evidence from 20 years of Swiss referendums

Direct democracy allows citizens to reverse decisions made by legislatures and even initiate new laws which parliaments are unwilling to pass, thereby, as its proponents argue, leading to more representative policies than would have obtained under a purely representative democracy. Yet, turnout in referendums is usually lower than in parliamentary elections and tends to be skewed towards citizens of high socio-economic status. Consequently, critics of direct democracy argue that referendum outcomes may not be representative of the preferences of the population at large. Le petit dépôt de bronzes découvert à Quitteur (commune de Beaujeu-Saint-Vallier-Pierrejux et Quitteur ; Haute-Saône - France), sur une moyenne terrasse de la Saône, est composé de trente-deux objets comprenant un assortiment d’éléments de parures (boutons à bélière, pendeloque, anneaux) associés à un couteau à manche massif et une armature de flèche. Le lieu de découverte du dépôt, dans l’espace occupé par les vestiges d’un habitat contemporain du RSFO, s’écarte de la majorité des dépôts de bronzes isolés comme l’archéologie les perçoit habituellement. Un certain nombre de coopérations s’établissent plus ou moins spontanément de part et d’autre de la frontière franco-suisse dans l’Arc jurassien. En général de petite taille, visibles ou non aux échelles locales, elles présentent, selon nous, un grand intérêt dans le cadre de la mise en place d’un sentiment communautaire dans l’Arc jurassien. En effet, le devenir de cet espace transfrontalier doit s’ancrer dans le partage des valeurs des deux pays frontaliers afin d’endiguer les risques de repli identitaire. La céramique Rhin-Suisse-France orientale de Passy "Richebourg Ouest" : un ensemble du Bronze final IIB dans l'Yonne

A 1994 archaeological evaluation at Passy «Richebourg» (Yonne) brought to light a pit containing material dating to the second period of the Late Bronze Age. The typochronological analysis of this material has dated it to the Bronze final IIb (well-known period in the East of France). This work is part of a number of short papers allowing us to work on the precise dating of this second period of the Late Bronze Age in the Yonne area.
Imbalanced Job Polarization and Skills Mismatch in Europe

Abstract This paper considers the education of the labour force based on an analysis of trends in and the relationships between job polarization and skills mismatch. Both job polarization and skills mismatch have become topics of increasing interest, but relationships between the two have been relatively neglected in the literature. We argue that the relationship between polarization and skills mismatch is an empirical matter, which we analyse at both the macroeconomic and microeconomic level in European countries.
