Reader Comments Agentive Power in COVID-19 Digital News Articles: Challenging Parascientific Information?
2022
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has triggered an enormous stream of information. Parascientific digital communication has pursued different avenues, from mainstream media news to social networking, at times combined. Likewise, citizens have developed new discourse practices, with readers as active participants who claim authority. Based on a corpus of 500 reader comments from The Guardian, we analyse how readers build their authorial voice on COVID-19 news as well as their agentive power and its implications. Methodologically, we draw upon stance markers, depersonalisation strategies, and heteroglossic markers, from the perspective of discursive interpersonality. Our findings unearth that stan…
Traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) for molecular targeted therapies of tumours.
2009
Scientific progress in genetics, cell and molecular biology has greatly ameliorated our comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms of neoplastic transformation and progression. The rapidly advancing identification of molecular targets in human cancers during the last decade has provided an excellent starting point for the development of novel therapeutics. A huge variety of potential molecular targets have been identified, many of which are already in the market for therapeutic purposes. It is now becoming possible to target pathways and/or molecules that are crucial in maintaining the malignant phenotype. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is often considered as alternative or…

Biochemical sensors: The state of the art
1995
The basic components of a (bio)chemical sensor and the main concepts involved in the (bio)chemical sensor methodology are considered in order to depict the state of the art of the development of research in this field, paying special attention to the evolution of the published scientific literature in analytical chemistry.
Modélisation du contexte des lexies spécialisées en vue de l’élaboration d’un système d’aide à la rédaction scientifique dans le domaine biomédical
2018
Abstract In this paper we propose a modeling of contextual information around a terminological unit, for the needs of a scientific writing aid tool in the biomedical field. We focus more specifically on the modeling of significant phraseic contexts that we formalize as semantically characterized argument patterns. This modeling is based on a large corpus of biomedical scientific articles and relay on semantic types specified in a domain ontology, Unified Medical Language System . Resume Dans cet article nous proposons une modelisation de l’information contextuelle autour des lexies specialisees en vue de l’elaboration d’un systeme d’aide a la redaction scientifique dans le domaine biomedica…
Classification of reference models: a methodology and its application
2003
Classification is an important tool for perception and can be found in numerous scientific disciplines. Several application areas of classification are described in the context of information modeling. The usefulness of classification for reuse resp. selection of reference models is emphasized. A methodology to systematically create classification systems will be introduced. Furthermore, a classification system for reference models will be developed with the aid of the proposed methodology. This classification system gives a comprehensive, but abstract survey of 26 reference models found in the literature.
The role of green extraction techniques in Green Analytical Chemistry
2015
Abstract Greening extraction techniques to improve the sensitivity and the selectivity of analytical methods is the sustainable alternative to classical sample-preparation procedures used in the past. In this update, we review the main strategies employed in the scientific literature to reduce deleterious side-effects of extraction techniques. We demonstrate that the evolution of sample-treatment procedures is focused on the simultaneous improvement of the main analytical features of the method and its practical aspects, including the economic case.
Defining the Concepts of Organization, Economic Organization and Stabilizer from the Perspective of Complex Systems
2014
Abstract This paper is a theoretical investigation that sets forth a scientific debate on the concepts of organization, economic organization, and stabilizer from the perspective of complex systems. By defining these concepts, the paper aims at increasing the intelligibility of social and economic phenomena. In formulating the definitions, we considered the following criteria: the adequacy criterion, the consistency criterion and the independence criterion. The paper is part of a larger study on the economic organization and the paradigm of the living logical system.

Scientific Production on Web Usability
2016
Scientific literature on Web usability is presented by the bibliometric analysis of published Science and Scopus database articles available on the Web. We analyzed the productivity, temporal distribution and scientific production by authors, institutions, countries and journals. There has been a growing trend in the number of articles published, confirming the consolidation and progress in web usability research.
