Photocatalytic ozonation: Maximization of the reaction rate and control of undesired by-products

Abstract In the so-called photocatalytic ozonation (PO) synergistic effects between photocatalysis and ozonation enhance the rate of oxidation of organic compounds, therefore this integrated process is very promising for use in water treatment. In the present work, it is demonstrated that the improvement that can be obtained by the integrated process in comparison with the uncoupled processes depends on the relative weight between photocatalysis and ozonation. Evidence of the Gluten-Free and Casein-Free Diet in Autism Spectrum Disorders

In autism spectrum disorders, many parents resort to alternative treatments and these are generally perceived as risk free. Among these, the most commonly used is the gluten-free, casein-free diet. The objective of this work was to conduct a systematic review of studies published from 1970 to date related to the gluten-free, casein-free diet in autism spectrum disorder patients. Few studies can be regarded as providing sound scientific evidence since they were blinded randomized controlled trials, and even these were based on small sample sizes, reducing their validity. Thermal rearrangements of 1,2-dialkoxybenzenes by flash vacuum pyrolysis

Flash vacuum pyrolysis of 1,2-dialkoxybenzenes 1a-c leads to the liberation of alkanes from the interacting side chains. A rearrangement of the skeleton yields the o-hydroxy carbonyl compounds 2 and 4. The generation of phenol 3 can be rationalized by a decarbonylation. The latter reaction is the sole process which can be observed for the bicyclic starting compound 9.

The prevention and sanction aspects of the protection against the pollution is manifested in Europe by the combination and complementarity of two matters (environment and fundamental rights) and two legal orders (European Union and Council of Europe). They consist of the protection of the environment that a person can expect to obtain in the context of the protection of these rights. Nuestra pretensión en este trabajo es cuestionar la distinción clásica entre «teoría», «prácticas de laboratorio» y «problemas». Intentaremos mostrar qué investigaciones realizadas en los tres campos privan de sentido a esta separación que, conviene notar, no guarda paralelismo alguno con la actividad científica real. Our aim with this paper is to question the typical distinction between «theory», «lab» and «paper and pencil problem-solving » activities. We intend to show that research done on these domains does not support their separation in the teaching/learning process. In fact, this separation does not take place in any real scientific activity.
Les représentations spatiales de concepts scientifiques : inventaire et diversité

The consultation of twelve journals (French and English language) that deal with science education, for the years 1991 to 1993, allowed us to summarize the use of spatial representations of scientific concepts in didactics research. Two main results were produced from this study : there has not been much work published with spatial representations, and what has been published is very heterogeneous. Analysis of this diversity does not always allow us to understand the authors’ objectives and obliges researchers in didactics to think about the nature and role of spatial representations in the construction of scientific knowledge.
