Craniofacial venous malformations treated by percutaneous sclerotherapy using polidocanol: a single-center experience.

2018

Background Percutaneous therapy with various sclerosants is an established treatment of venous malformations in general. We investigated the safety and effectiveness of polidocanol in the craniofacial region. Purpose To present and evaluate our subjective and objective mid- and long-term results of patients with craniofacial venous malformations (CFVM) after percutaneous sclerotherapy using polidocanol. Material and Methods Twenty patients with CFVM treated by percutaneous sclerotherapy were followed up and asked to fill in a questionnaire comparing levels of the following CFVM-related symptoms before and after treatment: pain; functional impairment; cosmetic deformities; and impairment in …

Autoimmunhepatitis und Overlap-Syndrom: Therapie

2002

1989

In 15 of 18 patients, 2 of them with previous surgery, transpenile venoablation was performed for treatment of erectile dysfunction due to cavernous leakage. In 4 this was combined with retrograde venooclusion via the internal iliac vein. In 4 patients normal erectile status could be obtained. In 3 other patients erections became possible with use of intracavernous vasoactive agents. In two only mild amelioration, and in two others no change of erectile dysfunction were obtained. Follow-up studies are yet missing in 3 patients. Complications of the procedure were not observed.

Sclerosing Angiomatoid Nodular Transformation: Laparoscopic Splenectomy as Therapeutic and Diagnostic Approach at the Same Time

2018

Introduction. Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen is a rare benign vascular lesion with unknown etiopathogenesis and with definite features of imaging, histopathology, and immunohistochemistry. It was first described by Martel et al. in 2004, and to date, only 151 cases have been reported.Case Description. We report a case of SANT of the spleen detected in a 66-year-old Caucasian, without comorbidities, presented to our department with epigastric pain. We, also, presented a review of the literature.Conclusions. SANT is a benign incidentally vascular condition in the majority of cases. The wide age and gender distribution in our review is in accordance with tha…

The effect of the calibre and length of needle on the stability of sclerosing foam.

2020

Objectives Little is known how calibre and length of needles affect the stability of sclerosing foam. Methods Foams were made of 0.5%, 1%, 2% and 3% polidocanol, and 0.2%, 0.5%, 1% and 3% sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS), which were mixed with air in the proportion of 4:1. These foams were ejected through needles with the length of: 4 mm, 6 mm and 13 mm, and diameter of: 0.26 mm, 0.3 mm and 0.4 mm. Results Foams made of more concentrated polidocanol were more stable. Regarding STS an opposite relationship was revealed. Foams made of polidocanol were more stable if ejected through a longer needle, while the length of needle did not significantly affect stability of STS foams. Foams ejected th…

Consensus recommendations for managing asymptomatic persistent non-virus non-alcohol related elevation of aminotransferase levels

2008

Abstract A persistent increase in non-virus non-alcohol related aminostransferase levels can have multiple causes, which differ in terms of prevalence and clinical importance. In the general population, the most frequent cause is non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis, which can evolve into steato-hepatitis and cirrhosis. The treatment for steatosis and non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis consists of modifying lifestyles, whereas the effectiveness of drug treatment remains to be determined. Other much less frequent (yet not rare) causes of persistent non-virus non-alcohol related elevations in aminotransferase levels are celiac disease and hemochromatosis, whereas autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary …

Effects of sclerosing agents on head and neck hemangiomas : a systematic review

2019

Background The aim of this study was to systematically review the literature for studies that investigated the effects of sclerosing agents on head and neck hemangiomas. Material and methods Clinical trials, cohort studies, and descriptive studies were considered eligible and selected in a two-phase process. Six main electronic databases, in addition to three grey literature databases, were searched. Risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using the "Meta-Analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument" checklist. From fifty-six considered eligible, five were finally included. Results One article were judged at low, one at moderate, and three at high RoB. The sclerosing agents investigated …
