Ornamentation of dermal bones of Metoposaurus krasiejowensis and its ecological implications
2018
Background Amphibians are animals strongly dependent on environmental conditions, like temperature, water accessibility, and the trophic state of the reservoirs. Thus, they can be used in modern palaeoenvironmental analysis, reflecting ecological condition of the biotope. Methods To analyse the observed diversity in the temnospondyl Metoposaurus krasiejowensis from Late Triassic deposits in Krasiejów (Opole Voivodeship, Poland), the characteristics of the ornamentation (such as grooves, ridges, tubercules) of 25 clavicles and 13 skulls were observed on macro- and microscales, including the use of a scanning electron microscope for high magnification. The different ornamentation patterns fo…

New documents partly re-emerge the ancient splendour of the abbey of Santa Maria di Altofonte, founded by Frederick III and ruled since the 15th century by commendatory abbots belonging to noble families, such as Ascanio Colonna, Scipione Borghese and Francesco Maria Medi…
Review of Advanced Acoustical Imaging Techniques for Nondestructive Evaluation of Art Objects
2006
Proper preventative diagnosis of different art objects, including wooden, bronze and marble sculptures, frescoes, and paintings (on canvas, wood, metal, and glass), is very important for conservation purposes. Various advanced ultrasonic imaging methods for analysis and assessment of art objects can bring about drastic changes in the regular evaluation and inventory carried out by museums and can bring advanced, powerful, and new techniques for objective assessment of physical conditions of museum resplendence. Using these methods, it will be possible to plan ad hoc repair works on art objects, and, as a result, we will preserve our heritage. The goal of this review is to introduce recent a…
Fontane e acquedotti nella Sicilia tra XV e XVII secolo
2014
Between XV and XVII century, the Sicilian cities deal with impressive works of modernization, trough the construction of new conducts and aqueducts. The most eloquent signsof this activity are the precious fountains, built in Messina and Palermo, with a clear role of civic propaganda. In addition to these works, the documents tell, with reference to several cities of the island, of a lasting and dramatic series of quarrels that reveal the political and economic value of the water’s domain. Le città siciliane tra XV e XVII affrontarono una imponente opera di modernizzazione attraverso la costruzione di nuove condutture idriche e di acquedotti. La prova più evidente di questa attività so le p…

Concordiae Agrigentinorum sacrum res publica Lilybitanorum. Nessi reali e presunti tra Agrigentum e Lilybaeum, a proposito di Iside. Parte I. Agrigen…
2019
The discovery of a temple at Agrigento in the neinties of the last Century and the recent detection of a sacred building at Lilibeo should contribute, according with their discoverers, to fill the lack of evidences concerning the Isis cult between the East and West part of Sicily. In order to re-consider the data that should confirm these two interpretations, the aim of this contribution is to take in exam the first of these two cases, Agrigento, suggesting, with the necessary prudence, a different lecture. Rather than an alternative hypothesis this lecture would offer a contribution to the debate. Some considerations on the sacred building and its location next to the Forum as well as on t…
