Topological Hopf algebras, quantum groups and deformation quantization

2003

After a presentation of the context and a brief reminder of deformation quantization, we indicate how the introduction of natural topological vector space topologies on Hopf algebras associated with Poisson Lie groups, Lie bialgebras and their doubles explains their dualities and provides a comprehensive framework. Relations with deformation quantization and applications to the deformation quantization of symmetric spaces are described

The presence of conifer resin decreases the use of the immune system in wood ants.

2008

5 pages; International audience; 1. Wood ants ( Formica paralugubris ) incorporate large amounts of solidified conifer resin into their nest, which reduces the density of many bacteria and fungi and protects the ants against some detrimental micro-organisms. By inducing an environment unfavourable to pathogens, the presence of resin may allow workers to reduce the use of their immune system. 2. The present study tested the hypothesis that the presence of resin decreases the immune activity of wood ants. Specifically, three components of the humoral immune defences of workers kept in resin-rich and resin-free experimental nests (antibacterial, lytic, and prophenoloxidase activities) were com…

Stable motivic homotopy theory at infinity

2021

In this paper, we initiate a study of motivic homotopy theory at infinity. We use the six functor formalism to give an intrinsic definition of the stable motivic homotopy type at infinity of an algebraic variety. Our main computational tools include cdh-descent for normal crossing divisors, Euler classes, Gysin maps, and homotopy purity. Under $\ell$-adic realization, the motive at infinity recovers a formula for vanishing cycles due to Rapoport-Zink; similar results hold for Steenbrink's limiting Hodge structures and Wildeshaus' boundary motives. Under the topological Betti realization, the stable motivic homotopy type at infinity of an algebraic variety recovers the singular complex at in…

Synchronization and fluctuations for interacting stochastic systems with individual and collective reinforcement

2020

The Pólya urn is the paradigmatic example of a reinforced stochastic process. It leads to a random (non degenerated) time-limit. The Friedman urn is a natural generalization whose a.s. time-limit is not random anymore. In this work, in the stream of previous recent works, we introduce a new family of (finite) systems of reinforced stochastic processes, interacting through an additional collective reinforcement of mean field type. The two reinforcement rules strengths (one componentwise, one collective) are tuned through (possibly) different rates n −γ. In the case the reinforcement rates are like n −1 , these reinforcements are of Pólya or Friedman type as in urn contexts and may thus lead …

Exact simulation of diffusion first exit times: algorithm acceleration

2020

In order to describe or estimate different quantities related to a specific random variable, it is of prime interest to numerically generate such a variate. In specific situations, the exact generation of random variables might be either momentarily unavailable or too expensive in terms of computation time. It therefore needs to be replaced by an approximation procedure. As was previously the case, the ambitious exact simulation of exit times for diffusion processes was unreachable though it concerns many applications in different fields like mathematical finance, neuroscience or reliability. The usual way to describe exit times was to use discretization schemes, that are of course approxim…

Additive functionals and push forward measures under Veretennikov's flow

2014

16 pages; In this work, we will be interested in the push forward measure $(\vf_t)_*\gamma$, where $\vf_t$ is defined by the stochastic differential equation \begin{equation*} d\vf_t(x)=dW_t + \ba(\vf_t(x))dt, \quad \vf_0(x)=x\in\mbR^m, \end{equation*} and $\gamma$ is the standard Gaussian measure. We will prove the existence of density under the hypothesis that the divergence $\div(\ba)$ is not a function, but a signed measure belonging to a Kato class; the density will be expressed with help of the additive functional associated to $\div(\ba)$.

Cut-off method for endogeny of recursive tree processes

2016

Given a solution to a recursive distributional equation, a natural (and non-trivial) question is whether the corresponding recursive tree process is endogenous. That is, whether the random environment almost surely defines the tree process. We propose a new method of proving endogeny, which applies to various processes. As explicit examples, we establish endogeny of the random metrics on non-pivotal hierarchical graphs defined by multiplicative cascades and of mean-field optimization problems as the mean-field matching and travelling salesman problems in pseudo-dimension q>1.

Radial electron fluence around ion tracks as a new physical parameter for the detection threshold of PADC using Geant4-DNA toolkit

2018

International audience; The detection threshold of poly(allyl dyglycol carbonate), PADC, for C ions is determined as 55 eV/nm in stopping power, which is significantly higher than that for proton and He ions. The stopping power is not a universal parameter for expressing the detection threshold of PADC. A new physical parameter of Radial Electron Fluence around Ion Tracks, REFIT, is proposed to describe the detection threshold of PADC. It is defined as the number density of electrons passing through the surface of a cylinder of a certain radius that is co-axial with the trajectory. Furthermore, preliminary calculations are presently being performed using the Monte Carlo simulation code of G…

Developing post-primary education in sub-saharan africa

2010

Countries located at the South of Sahara are currently making significant progresses towards universal completion of primary education. Consequently the number of youngsters who knock at the door of secondary education is much increasing creating strong structural pressures on all segments of post-primary schooling. Identification of a strategy helping to cope with this issue in a sustainable way constitutes a major challenge for educational policies in all countries of the region. The research undertaken aims, in the diversity of national context, at exploring a large array of policy options (in terms of quantity, input mix and quality of services and modalities of financing) that could be…
