An Arakelov inequality in characteristic p and upper bound of p-rank zero locus

In this paper we show an Arakelov inequality for semi-stable families of algebraic curves of genus $g\geq 1$ over characteristic $p$ with nontrivial Kodaira-Spencer maps. We apply this inequality to obtain an upper bound of the number of algebraic curves of $p-$rank zero in a semi-stable family over characteristic $p$ with nontrivial Kodaira-Spencer map in terms of the genus of a general closed fiber, the genus of the base curve and the number of singular fibres. An extension of the above results to smooth families of Abelian varieties over $k$ with $W_2$-lifting assumption is also included.

Abstract High pressure processing (HPP) allows to extend the shelf life of meat and meat products by pressurization of microorganisms. At the same time, HPP can induce changes of the protein structure. Vacuum-packed pork chops were HPP-treated at 300, 600 MPa for 1 or 15 min. Samples of raw, cooked and HPP-treated meat muscles and juice were analysed to evaluate the structure of macromolecules. HPP caused visible discolouration of pork chops; hence, the colour of pork meat surface was tested. Acoustic doppler velocity profiler for velocity and turbulence measurements in a large amplitude meandering flume

Flow over deformed bed of a meandering laboratory channel is experimentally investigated. The velocity components have been obtained using an Ultrasonic Doppler Profiler (DOP2000) that measures the instantaneous flow velocity profile along the probe direction. In this work, some results obtained in peculiar sections along the channel are reported. A refined mesh of the measurement points has been used for each considered cross-section. Traditionally the activated sludge process is treated as two stage process. The first stage (aeration basin) is described in terms of biological processes while the description of the second stage concentrates on processes of biomass separation and thickening. The modern approach to the activated sludge process looks at both the biological and the separation stage as one system. The aim of this chapter is to explain the interactions between the two parts of the activated sludge system.

Aquest treball presenta una aproximació a l'estudi de l'empatia i de les variables que influeixen en el seu desenvolupament. L'objectiu principal és determinar en quina mesura influeixen la variable de sexe i la variable d'edat en la disposició empàtica dels adolescents. L'estudi es realitza amb una mostra d'estudiants de secundària (n = 114), homes i dones. Els resultats indiquen que les dues variables analitzades (sexe i edat) tenen un efecte significatiu sobre l'empatia. Les dones es mostren més empàtiques que els homes en totes les dimensions que mesura l'escala IRI. Mobile health apps increase the accessibility of cognitive-behavioral–based interventions before, during, or following treatment. GGOC is a mobile app designed to challenge maladaptive beliefs in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). This single-case study assesses the usefulness of GGOC as a relapse prevention tool for OCD. The patient was a 26-year-old woman with severe contamination and washing/cleaning OCD symptoms (Y-BOCS = 33). GGOC was used for relapse prevention following CBT treatment. Abstract Background Vitamin D deficiency is very common in elderly people while there are very few reports on its incidence, determinants and metabolic consequences in young subjects. Results In 608 young healthy premenopausal women participating in the BONTURNO study, levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] below 20 ng/ml were found in almost a third of the women. Its levels were inversely ( P 2 ) and directly with sunlight exposure during the summer time, and latitude: i.e. the higher the latitude over Italy, the higher the 25(OH)D level. In order to localize cortical areas mediating pain we now report subdural cortical potentials evoked by auditory stimulation (auditory-evoked potentials - AEPs) and by cutaneous stimulation with a laser (laser-evoked potentials - LEPs). Stimulation with the laser evokes a pure pain sensation by selective activation of nociceptors. LEPs were maximal over the inferior aspect of the central sulcus and had the same polarity on either side of the sylvian fissure. AEPs were maximal posterior to the LEP maximum and had opposite polarity on opposite sides of the sylvian fissure, consistent with the location of a known generator in the temporal operculum.
