Paths to the recognition of homo-parental adoptive rights in the EU-27: a QCA analysis

2015

ABSTRACTAlthough the recognition of the adoptive rights of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) couples is a socially salient topic, cross-national variation regarding this issue has been largely underexplored in social science research. With the aid of configurational analysis, this article fills this gap and shows the conditions that explain the recognition of the adoptive rights of homosexual couples in the countries of the EU-27. It is argued that two different paths led to this outcome. All countries where adoptive rights were recognized had higher degrees of secularization and lower levels of social homophobia. In addition, in Northern European countries, the Protestant back…

Social Geographical Patterns in Membership of the Established Church in Denmark

2019

The Church of Denmark was established in 1849 and is regarded as a pillar of traditional national identity. This status is being challenged by a steady decline in membership in recent decades. The Capital area is especially prone to low membership rates, and this regional pattern remains when the analysis controls for income and education. Furthermore, the local membership rate is also related to affiliation to the neighbourhood. Our detailed analysis is based on public register data on the individual level combined with geographical mapping information. Denmark is thereby divided into micro-aggregated areas in order to locate varying church membership rates. While some local variation can …

Belief in God, Confidence in the Church and Secularization in Scandinavia

2021

We used the three latest rounds of the religion module of International Social Survey Programme to study secularization in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, focusing on belief in God. We restricted our sample to the affiliated with the majority Protestant churches and the unaffiliated and analyzed the trends toward disaffiliation and disbelief in God. Then, we studied the association between confidence in churches, religious/secular upbringing, and demographic controls with belief in God using multinomial logistic regression models. Our treatment of belief in God as a nominal variable allowed the inclusion of both the element of doubt and different images of God in the analyses. The trends towar…

Jeszcze o kasacie klasztoru kanoników regularnych p.w. św. Mikołaja w Kaliszu

2020

W 1810 r. doszło do kasaty klasztoru kanoników regularnych p.w.

International Scientific Conference "Socio-Political and Religious Ideas and Movements in the 20th-21st Centuries", Latvia, Riga, 4-5 October 2018 : …

2018

The conference facilitated the exchange of ideas and the results of the latest studies on the reciprocity and significance of religious and socially political ideas (ideologies) in contemporary society. In the modern-day ever-changing political situation, an increasing danger to the safety and stability of society is caused by the manipulations of the seemingly traditional conceptions of ethical, religious and cultural values evident in the public discourse and media space. Under the impact of global processes, social anxiety and ethical disorientation facilitate a dangerous trend to trust the populist ideologies and quasi-religious ideas, as well as increase the level of radicalisation of …

This work focuses in the foundational role of …

Schmeller, Johann Andreas (1785–1852)

2006

The Bavarian J. A. Schmeller hoped that the Swiss educational reformer Pestalozzi would appoint him as a teacher. When this failed, he joined the Swiss military in Spanish services carrying out Pestalozzi's principles at military schools by teaching languages in Tarragona and Madrid, and, finally, at a private teaching institute in Basle. He was inspired by the Swiss dialect dictionary when he decided to make a Bavarian dialect dictionary and, based on this, a Bavarian dialect grammar. This was the beginning of German scientific dialectology. He was appointed member of the Bavarian Academy of Science and professor at Munich university. As curator of the Royal Court and State Library (1829) …

Modernità, secolarizzazione e metafisica. In dialogo (postumo) con Sergio Sarti

2022
