This study wants to examine effects of job insecurity on several work-related outcomes (perceived work-related symptoms, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions) by developing a moderated mediation model. The model emphasizes the role played by the quality of leader–member exchange (LMX) in mediating the relation between perceived job insecurity and outcomes related to work, and the moderating role of perceived organizational support (POS) in influencing the mediation. Birth of the Biscane

This paper describes the unprecedented storm Stephanie, which exhibited tropical characteristics over the Bay of Biscay on 15 September 2016. Remote sensing observations reveal a cloud-free area surrounded by a circular precipitation pattern and an axisymmetric wind field, while buoy observations show an abrupt drop in wind speed during the passage of the storm centre. Model analysis further corroborates an ongoing tropical transition from a frontal cold-core to a symmetric warm-core system. By analogy with ‘Medicanes’ (Mediterranean hurricanes), we name this storm a ‘Biscane’ (Biscay hurricane). Weather systems of this kind may become more frequent in a warmer climate.

Abstract Microplastics (MPs) are considered to be ubiquitous contaminants in freshwater ecosystems, yet their sources and pathways at the river catchment scale need to be better determined. This study assessed MP (55–5000 µm) pollution in a Mediterranean river catchment (central Spain) and aimed to identify the importance of wastewater as an environmental pathway. Removal of algae from biological cultures: a challenge for electrocoagulation?

BACKGROUND In the search for novel technologies for the treatment of urban wastewater, combined anaerobic–algae membrane bioreactors have become a very interesting choice. Recovery of algae produced in these reactors has become the key point to obtain a good economic efficiency with this technology. In this work, electrocoagulation is studied as an alternative for the coarse removal of algae from a biological culture. RESULTS Results demonstrate that the electrochemical technology is a suitable technology for this purpose allowing the removal of more than 90% of the algae without modifying significantly the pH and with an operating cost below 0.04 € m−3. Foreign-owned firms around the world: A comparative analysis of wages and employment at the micro-level

Abstract This paper provides the first microeconomic cross-country analysis of the effects of foreign ownership on wages, employment and worker turnover rates. Using firm-level and linked worker-firm data, we apply a standardised methodology for three developed (Germany, Portugal, UK) and two emerging economies (Brazil, Indonesia). We find that wage effects are larger in developing countries, and that for each country the largest effect on wages comes from workers who move from domestic to foreign firms. Impact of the refugee crisis in the EU CSDP. Reference to the Spanish contribution

For the last three years the EU has been facing a refugee crisis which adds on to the flux of immigrants heading to Europe. The absence of safe and legal routes results in both immigrants and refugees having to recur to traffic mafias in order to cross the Mediterranean (through two main routes, the central one from Libya and the eastern one from Turkey), which ends up turning into a pit for thousands of deaths. The EU has launched a dispositive to fight against this situation, specifically in the route that stems from Libya, the operation EUNAVFOR MED. However, its features raise a series of problems which the Security Council’s Resolution 2240 (2015) has yet to resolve.

This paper examines some issues raised by the United States withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) related to Iran’s nuclear program. The JCPOA is a nonbinding document, there has been some debate about the effect of the subsequent U.N. Security Council resolution endorsing the document on its legal status and on the US faculty of unilaterally withdrawing from the plan of action. Iran brought a case before the International Court of Justice questioning the legality of the reintroduction of U.S sanctions, the Court could eventually address the issue in later phases.
