Abstract The phenolic compound profiles of 393 raw mono- and polyfloral Latvian honey samples were investigated using a targeted ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) method. The frequent failure of standard cancer chemotherapy requires the development of novel drugs capable of killing otherwise drug-resistant tumors. Here, we have investigated a chloroform extract of Laurus nobilis seeds. Fatty acids and 23 constituents of the volatile fraction were identified by gas chromotography/flame ionization detection (GC/FID) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), in good agreement with (1)H NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectrum. Abstract The magnetic treatment presented in this study could be included among cultivation procedures aimed at a better utilisation of plant species. The treatment enhances seedling growth (expressed in fresh weight or in length of the hypocotyl) stimulates morphogenic events (premature differentiation of the reticulate xylem elements, increased wall thickness, reduction of the xylem diameter, increase of acid phosphatases) and renders the seedling batches more homogeneous. Our study demonstrates that exposure to weak (30 mT) magnetic fields for short periods (15, 30, 60 seconds) stimulates seedling growth.

International audience; Spinasterol and schottenol, two phytosterols present in argan oil and in cactus pear seed oil, were synthesized from commercially available stigmasterol by a four steps reactions. In addition, the effects of these phytosterols on cell growth and mitochondrial activity were evaluated on 158N murine oligodendrocytes, C6 rat glioma cells, and SK-N-BE human neuronal cells with the crystal violet test and the MTT test, respectively.
