The Effect of Montmorillonite Type Nanoparticles on Stiffness and Flammability of Rapeseed Oil Based Polyisocyanurate Foams

Polyisocyanurate foams incorporating polyols derived from rapeseed oil are developed, with the polyol system comprising up to 80% of rapeseed oil esters. To enhance the mechanical characteristics and fire resistance of the foams, they are filled with three different types of organically modified clay (organoclay) in the range of loading from 1 to 5% by weight. Marked increase in tensile stiffness of nanocomposite foams is observed.

Fatty acid composition of the seed lipids ofChamaerops humilisL. natural populations and its relation with the environment

Seed lipids composition is a tool to discriminate among plant taxa and is related to phylogeny and biogeographic distribution. Aim of the present study was to evaluate the fatty acid (FA) composition of the seed lipids from nine natural Chamaerops humilis L. population and its relation with the climatic traits of the collection sites. The average seed lipids content was 54.8 g kg21 and the most represented FAs were oleic (478 g kg21 oil) and linoleic (230 g kg21 oil), with significant differences among the accessions. Herbivorous grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) has been reported to exhibit low capacity to utilize high dietary lipid, but different lipid sources might affect this limited capacity. In order to compare the effects of different lipid sources with different lipid levels, juvenile grass carp were fed one of nine diets containing three oils [lard, plant oil mixed by maize and linseed oil, and n-3 high unsaturated fatty acid-enriched (HUFA-enriched) fish oil] at three lipid levels (20, 60 and 100 g kg(-1) dry diet) for 8 weeks. Abstract The synthesis of Dodecasil 1H was studied in the system SiO2/1-adamantylamin/NH3/water with the objective of controlling the particle size and the morphology of the crystals. Since nucleation occurs in a very early stage of the synthesis, the heating rate to the final temperature and/or holding points during heat up have a strong influence on both parameters. Crystals smaller than 150 μm could only be obtained by the use of seed crystals, which are completely consumed in the synthesis with subsequent new nucleation. The RIBES strategy for ex situ conservation: conventional and modern techniques for seed conservation

The Italian seed bank network (RIBES) aims to improve the quality and safety of the germplasm reserves of native plant species in Italy to ensure the long-term conservation of endangered and/or endemic flora. The strategy includes traditional methods to secure seed conservation. A comprehensive priority list for seed collection is being defined, it was prepared by crossing data of various checklists (red lists, endemics) and will soon be cross-referenced with an updated list of accessions of the whole network. Light induces expression of a dehydrin-encoding gene during seedling de-etiolation in sunflower (Helianthus annus L.)

The effects of light quality on the expression of a sunflower dehydrin-encoding gene, HaDhn1, were studied during seedling de-etiolation. Seeds were germinated in the dark and, after 5 days, seedlings were maintained well watered and de-etiolated under different lights for 3, 6, 12, and 24h. Exposure to white light stimulated HaDhn1 transcript accumulation in the cotyledons of these seedlings, contrary to seedlings grown in the dark. HaDhn1 transcripts increased also treating plantlets with monochromatic lights, especially red light. Reproductive barriers play an important role in the maintenance of species boundaries. However, to date, few studies have provided a detailed analysis of reproductive isolation barriers between species or examined their importance in maintaining species identity. This is the first detailed study into pre- and post-zygotic reproductive isolation barriers in Antirrhinum, based on a mixed population with two species that rarely co-occur.
