Customer segmentation based on commitment and ICT use

2009

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to determine and characterize groups of retail customers, based on their perception of commitment to the retailer and the degree of use of its technological equipment.Design/methodology/approachA CHAID algorithm is performed and differences between the resulting segments are tested through the analysis of variance.FindingsFour segments are obtained that differ significantly in commitment to the retailer and level of use of the store's information and communication technology (ICT) facilities, as well as in other variables related to the retailer‐consumer relationship. In particular, customer segments differ in their use of retailers' payment facilities.Pr…

CNN-Based Prostate Zonal Segmentation on T2-Weighted MR Images: A Cross-Dataset Study

2020

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among US men. However, prostate imaging is still challenging despite the advances in multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which provides both morphologic and functional information pertaining to the pathological regions. Along with whole prostate gland segmentation, distinguishing between the central gland (CG) and peripheral zone (PZ) can guide toward differential diagnosis, since the frequency and severity of tumors differ in these regions; however, their boundary is often weak and fuzzy. This work presents a preliminary study on deep learning to automatically delineate the CG and PZ, aiming at evaluating the generalization ability o…

A novel active contour model for unsupervised low-key image segmentation

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Central European Journal of Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.2478/s13531-012-0050-0 Unsupervised image segmentation is greatly useful in many vision-based applications. In this paper, we aim at the unsupervised low-key image segmentation. In low-key images, dark tone dominates the background, and gray level distribution of the foreground is heterogeneous. They widely exist in the areas of space exploration, machine vision, medical imaging, etc. In our algorithm, a novel active contour model with the probability density function of gamma distribution is proposed. The flexible gamma distribution gives a bet…

Exploring relationship variables and Information and Communication Technologies use in industrial segmentation

2017

Purpose In tourism, the adoption of Information and Communication Technologies (hereinafter ICT) and variables concerning firms’ links with suppliers have been recognized as key determinants to improve companies’ competitiveness. From the perspective of efficient management of company resources, segmentation has become a key tool and is particularly significant and current in the business-to-business context. The purpose of this paper is to study the segmentation of firms in the tourist industry according to perceived ICT use and relationship value and benefits. In addition, from the management approach, the authors seek to describe the segments that enable the development of differentiate…

Subcutaneous veins detection and backprojection method using Frangi vesselness filter

2015

Blood vessels detection is a common task performed in numerous medical procedures. During regular medical treatments venipuncture procedures are performed for invasive medication and blood sampling. Near infrared imaging technology can be used to visualize the subcutaneous veins in cases of difficult venous access. In this paper the methods for veins centerline detection and back projection is presented. In order to highlight the suitable veins for venipuncture, the centerline of larger veins are detected and back projected to the original image. The method is applied on the near infrared images of subjects selected from four different classes of skin tone. This can be helpful to medical st…

Object-based image analysis technique for gully mapping using topographic data at very high resolution (VHR)

2018

An accurate mapping of gullies is important since they are still major contributors of sediment to streams. Mapping gullies can be difficult because of the presence of dense canopy, which precludes the identification through aerial photogrammetry and other traditional remote sensing methods. Moreover, the wide spatial extent of some gullies makes their identification and characterization through field surveys a very large and expensive proposition. One cheaper and more expeditious way to detect gullies can be achieved in terms of morphological characteristics by the Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). The recent widespread availability of very high resolution (VHR) imagery, such as LIDAR data,…

An Embedded Real-Time Lane-Keeper for Automatic Vehicle Driving

2008

Automatic vehicle driving involves several issues, such as the capability to follow the road and keep the right lane, to maintain the distance between vehicles, to regulate vehiclepsilas speed, to find the shortest route to a destination. In this paper a real-time automatic lane-keeper is proposed. The main features of the system are the lane markers location process as well as the computation of the vehiclepsilas steering lock. The above techniques require high elaboration speed to execute, check and complete an operation before a prearranged time. Clearly if system processing exceeds the deadline, the whole operation became meaningless or, in the meantime, the vehicle can reach a critical…

Interaction features for prediction of perceptual segmentation:Effects of musicianship and experimental task

2016

As music unfolds in time, structure is recognised and understood by listeners, regardless of their level of musical expertise. A number of studies have found spectral and tonal changes to quite successfully model boundaries between structural sections. However, the effects of musical expertise and experimental task on computational modelling of structure are not yet well understood. These issues need to be addressed to better understand how listeners perceive the structure of music and to improve automatic segmentation algorithms. In this study, computational prediction of segmentation by listeners was investigated for six musical stimuli via a real-time task and an annotation (non real-tim…

Image Content Enhancement Through Salient Regions Segmentation for People With Color Vision Deficiencies

2019

Color vision deficiencies affect visual perception of colors and, more generally, color images. Several sciences such as genetics, biology, medicine, and computer vision are involved in studying and analyzing vision deficiencies. As we know from visual saliency findings, human visual system tends to fix some specific points and regions of the image in the first seconds of observation summing up the most important and meaningful parts of the scene. In this article, we provide some studies about human visual system behavior differences between normal and color vision-deficient visual systems. We eye-tracked the human fixations in first 3 seconds of observation of color images to build real f…

Modelling and prediction of perceptual segmentation

2017

While listening to music, we somehow make sense of a multiplicity of auditory events; for example, in popular music we are often able to recognize whether the current section is a verse or a chorus, and to identify the boundaries between these segments. This organization occurs at multiple levels, since we can discern motifs, phrases, sections and other groupings. In this work, we understand segment boundaries as instants of significant change. Several studies on music perception and cognition have strived to understand what types of changes are associated with perceptual structure. However, effects of musical training, possible differences between real-time and non real-time segmentation, and…
