Palladium-catalyzed formation of secondary and tertiary amines from aryl dihalides with air-stable ferrocenyl tri- and diphosphines: Synthesis and X-…
2014
Abstract Robust, air-stable tridentate and bidentate ferrocenylphosphines 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1′-(diisopropylphosphino)-4-tert-butylferrocene, L5, and 1,1′-bis(diisopropylphosphino)-3,3′-bis(tert-butyl)ferrocene, L9, combined with 1 mol% of [PdCl(η3-C3H5)]2 led to two new catalytic systems which allow the coupling of aniline derivatives with mono- and dihaloarenes to form functionalized diarylamines and triarylamines. The excellent selectivity of the reactions avoids the deleterious dehalogenation of the substrates and products. The X-ray structure characterization of the related complex [PdCl2(L9)] is reported in which ligand L9 in its meso form is significantly distorted.
Development of a fully automated sequential injection solid-phase extraction procedure coupled to liquid chromatography to determine free 2-hydroxy-4…
2010
Abstract 2-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone-5-sulphonic acid, commonly known as benzophenone-3 (BZ3) and benzophenone-4 (BZ4), respectively, are substances widely used as UV filters in cosmetic products in order to absorb UV radiation and protect human skin from direct exposure to the deleterious wavelengths of sunlight. As with other UV filters, there is evidence of their percutaneous absorption. This work describes an analytical method developed to determine trace levels of free BZ3 and BZ4 in human urine. The methodology is based on a solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure for clean-up and pre-concentration, followed by the monitoring of the UV filters by…
A sequential-injection system for spectrophotometric determination of p -aminobenzoic acid in sunscreens.
2002
A sequential injection method is proposed for spectrophotometric determination of p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in cosmetic formulations. The method is based on diazotization of the analyte, coupling with 8-hydroxyquinoline, and the subsequent formation of a colored product. The experimental conditions used (coupling reagent, sandwich arrangement, volumes aspirated, propulsion flow rate, reaction coil length) were studied. Response of the sequential injection method were linearly dependent on concentrations up to 25 micro g mL(-1) and the detection limit was 2 micro g mL(-1). Throughput was 51 measurements per hour and a complete cycle, including three measurement per sample and a washing step…
o-Dianisidine: a new reagent for selective spectrophotometric, flow injection determination of chlorine
2002
A flow injection analysis (FIA) procedure for the determination of free chlorine in industrial formulations and water samples is proposed. The manifold is provided with a gas-diffusion unit which permits the removal of interfering species and also the preconcentration of chlorine. The determination of chlorine is performed on the basis of the oxidation by o-dianisidine as a chromogenic reagent to a coloured product which can be monitored at 445 nm. The method (for a preconcentration step of 60 s) is linear over the range 0.04-1.00 mg l(-1) of chlorine, the limit of detection is 0.04 mg l(-1), the reproducibility of the procedure (as RSD of the slope) is 3.7% for a series of four independent…
Antibody-Capped Mesoporous Nanoscopic Materials: Design of a Probe for the Selective Chromo-Fluorogenic Detection of Finasteride
2012
[EN] The synthesis of capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) conjugated with an antibody (AB) as a gatekeeper has been carried out in order to obtain a delivery system able to release an entrapped cargo (dye) in the presence of a target molecule (antigen) to which the conjugated antibody binds selectively. In particular, MSN loaded with rhodamine B and functionalized on the external surface with a suitable derivative of N-(t-butyl)- 3-oxo-(5a,17b)-4-aza-androst-1-ene-17-carboxamide (finasteride) have been prepared (S1). The addition of polyclonal antibodies against finasteride induced capping of the pores due to the interaction with the anchored hapten-like finasteride derivative to g…
A conjugated polymer with ethyl 2-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-1-yl) acetate units as a novel fluorescent chemosensor for silver(I) detection
2013
Abstract A novel conjugated polymer ( P1 ) containing fluorene and ethyl 2-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1 H -benzo[ d ]imidazol-1-yl)acetate (PBMA) was designed and successfully synthesized through the Sonogashira coupling reaction. P1 shows high sensitivity and selectivity for Ag + detection in comparison to other metal cations. Upon addition of Ag + , the fluorescent emission of the polymer solution in THF was quenched dramatically, accompanying the color changed from blue to green. The detection limit for Ag + was 5 × 10 −8 mol L −1 . However, the similar copolymers P2 and P3 containing 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1 H -benzo[ d ]imidazole and 2-(thiophen-2-yl)-1 H -benzo[ d ]imidazole, respectively, did not …
FI automatic method for the determination of copper(II) based on coproporphyrin I-Cu(II)/TCPO/H(2)O(2) chemiluminescence reaction for the screening o…
2004
Abstract In this paper, an automatic method for the screening of water samples containing Cu(II) was proposed, based on peryoxalate chemiluminescence reaction using coproporphyrin I as fluorophor compound to provide selectivity and a simple flow injection (FI) chemiluminescence detector (CLD). FI system conditions were chosen in order to distinguish samples over or under legislation limit established (50 μg l−1) with high reliability. The detection limit found was 9 μg l−1 and the linear dynamic range was 15–125 μg l−1 of Cu(II). Repeatibility and reproducibility studies gave good precision and accuracy with recovery near 100%. Under these conditions, the method resulted selective and only …
Spectrophotometric determination of mercury(II) and silver(I) with copper(II) and diethyldithiocarbamate in the presence of triton X-100
1986
Abstract Procedures for the determination of mercury and silver by displacement of diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) from its copper complex in the presence of 1% Triton X-100, and measurement of the decrease in the Cu(DDTC) 2 absorbance, are described. The use of the surfactant avoids the need for an extraction step. Reproducibility within 1% and detection limits of 0.25 ppm Hg(II) and 0.45 ppm Ag(I) have been obtained, and linear calibration ranges up to 13 ppm Hg(II) and 15 ppm Ag(I). In the presence of 0.1 M EDTA very good selectivity is achieved.
Electrochemical detection of chloride ions using Ag-based electrodes obtained from compact disc
2022
Abstract In this work electrochemical sensors fabricated from compact disc material (waste or new) are used to quantify chloride ions in different types of samples. All three electrodes, working, counter, and pseudo-reference electrodes, were fabricated from the compact disc and directly used. Different parameters were studied in order to demonstrate the possibility of using this waste material for efficient and low-cost electrochemical sensors. Chloride sensing performance was evaluated using linear scan voltammetry as the detection technique. A sensitivity of 0.174 mA mM−1 cm−2 with a limit of detection of 20 μM and excellent selectivity against many interferents was observed. Selectivity…
Direct injection analysis of fatty and resin acids in papermaking process waters by HPLC/MS
2011
A novel HPLC-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization/MS (HPLC-APCI/MS) method was developed for the rapid analysis of selected fatty and resin acids typically present in papermaking process waters. A mixture of palmitic, stearic, oleic, linolenic, and dehydroabietic acids was separated by a commercial HPLC column (a modified stationary C(18) phase) using gradient elution with methanol/0.15% formic acid (pH 2.5) as a mobile phase. The internal standard (myristic acid) method was used to calculate the correlation coefficients and in the quantitation of the results. In the thorough quality parameters measurement, a mixture of these model acids in aqueous media as well as in six different pape…
