Domestication of a laptop on a wireless university campus: a case study

<span>This study reports how university students domesticate their personal laptops at the beginning of studies on a wireless campus. The aim was to examine how students integrate the laptop into their personal education experience, what sort of processes were experienced to render the laptop useful and meaningful, and how gender and IT proficiency influenced this process. Qualitative interview data with twenty students (identified and selected by quantitative survey) was analysed using the grounded theory approach during which a multi-aspect domestication process was identified. Dystopian fiction in English: a corpus-driven analysis of esteem in Veronica Roth’s "Divergent" trilogy

In light of the recent wave of popularity of dystopian fiction for young adults, and in particular of Veronica Roth’s trilogy Divergent, research has begun to focus on this subgenre. However, the focus tends to be on educational and gender approaches to the novels, while the psychological aspects of the characters have been largely ignored. My study focuses on the representation of esteem and self-esteem in the trilogy through an analysis based on annotation. The results shed light on the factors that affect the protagonist’s role and self-representation.
Self-esteem, quality of life, and physical activity in women with diagnosed endometriosis: a pilot study in an Italian sample

Purpose. Endometriosis is a painful pathology impairing women's daily life. Several studies have shown that patients report low mental and physical quality of life, but no general evaluation of their self-esteem has been found. Studies concerning physical activity frequency present inconsistent results. Previous studies have reported lowered implicit self‐esteem at the behavioral level among depressed individuals. However, brain responses related to the lowered implicit self‐esteem have not been investigated in people with depression. The temporal relations of adolescents' basic need satisfaction in physical education and global self-worth

This study investigated the temporal relations of adolescents’ basic need satisfaction in physical education (PE) and global self-worth in a sample of 3,398 lower and upper secondary school students (49% boys, 51% girls, average age T1 = 15.00, SD = 1.79). Four models and competing hypotheses were tested, and the model with bidirectional paths specified showed the best fit to the data. The bidirectional effect estimates suggest not only that basic need satisfaction in PE predicts global self-worth development but also that adolescents’ perceptions of global self-worth predict the degree to which they experience basic need satisfaction in PE. Este estudio analiza las relaciones entre los estilos parentales y el ajuste psicosocial (autoestima) de los adolescentes en la cultura portuguesa. La muestra estuvo formada por 517 adolescentes, 214 varones (41,39%), con edades entre los 11 y los 18 anos.
