Multi sensor photogrammetric techniques for the documentation of the ruins of Temple G in Selinunte

In the past two decades UAV have been increasingly used for the survey of wide areas. The chosen case study, the huge heap of ruins of the Temple G in Selinunte, demands a higher accuracy than that usually accepted for wide areas survey; nonetheless, the morphology of the ruins makes laser scanning survey inadequate to the purpose of the analysis and interpretation. The proposed methodology integrates SfM photogrammetry from UAV and action camera’s photos. A test on a specific area has evaluated the accuracy of photogrammetric survey through the comparison with laser scanning data.

The phytochemical investigation of the acetone extract of the aerial parts of Elaeoselinum asclepium (L.) Bertol. subsp. meoides (Desf.) Fiori afforded several known diterpenoids as well as meoidic acid ( 5), new in the literature. The cytotoxic activities of elasclepic acid ( 1), ENT-atis-16-en-19-oic acid ( 2), ent-beyer-15-en-19-oic acid ( 3), ent-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid ( 4) and meoidic acid ( 5) were investigated on rat glioma C6 cells by evaluation of cell growth inhibition.

This research is focused on the virtual reconstruction of the Ionic cornice of temple G of Selinunte, as a case study for the definition of a virtual reconstruction method of collapsed walls elements in archaeological contexts. The complexity of the ruins of the temple suggested a thorough archaeological analysis of the fragments of the Ionic cornice that made it possible to identify traces of the construction process left by stonecutters during the worksite such as unfinished surfaces. Il contributo è volto ad esaminare i disegni relativi alle architetture classiche compiuti da Viollet-le-Duc durante il suo viaggio in Sicilia nel 1836. La marcata eterogeneità del suo repertorio iconografico, sia in relazione ai soggetti rappresentati e alla scala dimensionale, spaziando dalle vedute di paesaggio ai particolari architettonici, che alla tecnica e al tipo di rappresentazione, dalle prospettive pittoriche alle proiezioni ortogonali, oltre a denotare una notevole abilità grafica, evidenzia la vastità dei suoi interessi. L'esame dei disegni è accompagnato dallo studio delle lettere inviate ai familiari durante il suo soggiorno nell'isola e del suo diario (Journal).
Hulot's Selinunte: digital analysis and virtual reconstruction

Some drawings feature a powerful evocative nature, capable of presenting a truthful vision that can replace, in collective imagination, the actual expression of reality. This is the case of the "restorations" of Selinunte proposed by the French architect Jean-Louis Hulot (Paris 1871 -1959) which still today evoke the splendours of the ancient city. Thanks to his accurate surveys and inspired by the visit to the remains of further ancient cities such as Priene, Tera, Delos, and Pompeii, Hulot proposed in his watercolour drawings a vision of a "living" city, rendered at the height of its architectural and social magnificence.
