Necrológica del Outsider Reinhart Koselleck: el «historiador pensante» y las polémicas de los historiadores
2007
Reinhart Koselleck is an author difficult to classify, since his conceptual history is rejected, and at the same time taken advantage of, by both philosophy and historiography. This paper analyses Koselleck’s attitude, sometimes tactful, at other times passionate, towards the polemics of the historians and philosophers of his country, and particularly towards the controversy concerning the involvement of both groups in Nazism—a controversy that has provoked a debate, still open, about the affections and disaffections between the science which studies the past, and memory, and has also unleashed a dispute about memorials motivated by the monument to the victims of the Holocaust. Koselleck tr…
Literary critical narrative in latvian daily press
2013
Promocijas darba LITERATŪRKRITISKAIS NARATĪVS LATVIEŠU DIENAS PRESĒ Anotācija Promocijas darbā Literatūrkritiskais naratīvs dienas presē latviešu dienas laikrakstu literatūrkritiskie naratīvi tiek analizēti ar semiotiskā komunikācijas modeļa palīdzību. Literatūrkritiskie naratīvi veido daļu no mediju kultūras komunikācijas procesa un sastāv no zīmēm – semantiskām un sintaktiskām makrostruktūrām, kas radušās semiotiskas darbības rezultātā. Makrostruktūru klātbūtne un izvietojums tekstā nosaka laikrakstu literatūrkritiskā teksta tipus. Promocijas darbā analizētie preses teksti sistematizēti, veidojot sešus tipus: grāmatu recenzijas, īsās ziņas, intervijas, blogus, garākus avīžrakstus un inter…

A Longitudinal Study of Episodic and Semantic Autobiographical Memory in aMCI and Alzheimer’s Disease Patients
2021
Background: The main objective of this study was to analyze the evolution of autobiographical memory (both episodic and semantic) in patients with mild cognitive impairment, patients with Alzheimer’s disease, and a healthy control group. We compared these groups at two time points: first, at baseline, and in a follow-up after 18 months. Method: Twenty-six healthy older adults, 17 patients with mild amnestic cognitive impairment, and 16 patients with Alzheimer’s disease, matched on age and educational level, were evaluated at both time points with the Autobiographical Memory Interview. Results: The results showed significant longitudinal deterioration in episodic and semantic autobiographica…
Machine learning and ontology in eCoaching for personalized activity level monitoring and recommendation generation.
2022
AbstractLeading a sedentary lifestyle may cause numerous health problems. Therefore, passive lifestyle changes should be given priority to avoid severe long-term damage. Automatic health coaching system may help people manage a healthy lifestyle with continuous health state monitoring and personalized recommendation generation with machine learning (ML). This study proposes a semantic ontology model to annotate the ML-prediction outcomes and personal preferences to conceptualize personalized recommendation generation with a hybrid approach. We use a transfer learning approach to improve ML model training and its performance, and an incremental learning approach to handle daily growing data …
Semantic Word Error Rate for Sentence Similarity
2016
Sentence similarity measures have applications in several tasks, including: Machine Translation, Paraphrase Iden- tification, Speech Recognition, Question-answering and Text Summarization. However, measures designed for these tasks are aimed at assessing equivalence rather than resemblance, partly departing from human cognition of similarity. While this is reasonable for these activities, it hinders the applicability of sentence similarity measures to other tasks. We therefore propose a new sentence similarity measure specifically designed for resemblance evaluation, in order to cover these fields better. Experimental results are discussed.
Source-Target Mapping Model of Streaming Data Flow for Machine Translation
2017
Streaming information flow allows identification of linguistic similarities between language pairs in real time as it relies on pattern recognition of grammar rules, semantics and pronunciation especially when analyzing so called international terms, syntax of the language family as well as tenses transitivity between the languages. Overall, it provides a backbone translation knowledge for building automatic translation system that facilitates processing any of various abstract entities which combine to specify underlying phonological, morphological, semantic and syntactic properties of linguistic forms and that act as the targets of linguistic rules and operations in a source language foll…
Impaired semantic processing during sentence reading in children with dyslexia: combined fMRI and ERP evidence
2008
Developmental dyslexia is a specific disorder of reading acquisition characterized by a phonological core deficit. Sentence reading is also impaired in dyslexic readers, but whether semantic processing deficits contribute is unclear. Combining spatially and temporally sensitive neuroimaging techniques to focus on semantic processing can provide a more comprehensive characterization of sentence reading in dyslexia. We recorded brain activity from 52 children (16 with dyslexia, 31 controls) with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and event-related potentials (ERP) in two separate counterbalanced sessions. The children silently read and occasionally judged simple sentences with seman…

Reading comprehension: think and know verbs.
2004
Verbs such as think, know, remember, and guess play a pivotal role in understanding, monitoring, and transformation of internal states. We focus on the specific words as think and know, polysemous cognitive verbs that show hierarchical organization and high frequency of use in children's and adults' lexicons. According to Booth and Hall's model, think and know present a conceptual organization that involves low conceptual levels (perception, memory, comprehension) and high conceptual levels (evaluation, metacognition, planning). The aim of this research was to study the relationship between children's comprehension of text processing and the conceptual levels of the above-described verbs. …
